Arabic (Original)
نا نا هُشَيْمٌ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، أَنَّعُمَرَ، كَتَبَ إِلَى شُرَيْحٍ فِيالرَّجُلِ إِذَا لَمْ يَصِلْ إِلَى امْرَأَتِهِ أَنَّهُ يُؤَجِّلُهُ مِنْ يَوْمِ تُدْفَعُ إِلَيْهِ سَنَةً، فَإِنْ وَصَلَ إِلَيْهَا، وَإِلا فُرِّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا".
English Translation
Al-Sha'bi narrated that 'Umar wrote to Shurayh: "If a man cannot consummate his marriage, he is given a respite of one year from the day (the wife) is handed over to him. If he is able to approach her, (then well and good); otherwise, they are separated."
Urdu Translation
حضرت شعبی رحمہ اللہ سے روایت ہے کہ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے لکھا تھا کہ جو مرد اپنی بیوی سے ہمبستر نہ ہو سکے تو ایک سال مہلت دی جائے، اگر نہ ہو سکے تو جدائی کر دی جائے۔[سنن سعید بن منصور/كتاب الطلاق/حدیث: 3188]
