Arabic (Original)
نَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ السَّدُوسِيِّ، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عِنْدَ عِكْرِمَةَ:أَفَلَمْ يَيْئَسِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا , فَقَالَ: أَمَّا هِيَ: فَلْيَتَبَيَّنِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا , قَالَ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِشَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، فَقَالَ:" صَدَقَ، رَدَّنِي عَلَيْهِ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ".
English Translation
Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the verse: 'Have the disbelievers not then given up hope?' (al-Ra'd: 31). He said: 'Rather, it should be understood as: "Have not those who believe come to know?"' The narrator said: I mentioned this to Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: 'He spoke the truth — Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) corrected me on that.'
Urdu Translation
عکرمہ رحمہ اللہ کے پاس میں نے یہ آیت پڑھی﴿أَفَلَمْ يَيْأَسِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا﴾، تو انہوں نے فرمایا: یہ﴿فَلْيَتَبَيَّنِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا﴾ہے، پھر میں نے یہ بات شہر بن حوشب رحمہ اللہ سے ذکر کی تو انہوں نے کہا: سچ کہا، مجھے اس پر سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے لوٹایا تھا۔[سنن سعید بن منصور/كتاب التفسير/حدیث: 1172]
