Arabic (Original)
وعن أبي أمامة صدى بن عجلان رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : “يا ابن آدم إنك أن تبذل الفضل خير لك، وأن تمسكه شر لك، ولا تلام على كفاف، وابدأ يمن تعول واليد العليا خير من اليد السفلى" ((رواه مسلم)).
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be well pleased with him) reported:Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "O son of Adam (upon him be peace), if you spend the surplus, it will be better for you; and if you retain it, it will be bad for you. You will not be reprimanded for keeping what is enough for your need. Begin with those who are your dependents, and the upper hand (i.e., the one that spends in the way of Allah) is better than the lower hand (i.e., the one that receives charity.)".
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابو امامہ صدی بن عجلان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اے ابنِ آدم! اگر تو فاضل مال خرچ کرے تو یہ تیرے لیے بہتر ہے، اور اگر روک رکھے تو یہ تیرے لیے بُرا ہے، اور کفایت بھر پر تجھے ملامت نہیں ہوگی، اور (خرچ کرنے کی) ابتدا اپنے زیرِ کفالت لوگوں سے کرو، اور اوپر والا ہاتھ نیچے والے ہاتھ سے بہتر ہے۔ (مسلم)
