وعن العباس سهل بن سعد الساعدي رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال يوم خيبر: "لأعطين الراية غداً رجلا يفتح الله على يديه، يحب الله ورسوله، ويحبه الله ورسوله" فبات الناس يدوكون ليلتهم أيهم يعطاها. فلما أصبح الناس غدوا على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: كلهم يرجو أن يعطاها، فقال: "أين علي بن أبى طالب؟" فقيل: يا رسول الله هو يشتكي عينيه قال: "فأرسلوا إليه" فأتي به ، فبصق رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في عينيه، ودعا له، فبرأ حتى كأن لم يكن به وجع، فأعطاه الراية. فقال علي رضي الله عنه : يا رسول الله أقاتلهم حتى يكونوا مثلنا؟ فقال: "انفذ على رسلك حتى تنزل بساحتهم، ثم ادعهم إلى الإسلام، وأخبرهم بما يجب عليهم من حق الله تعالى فيه، فوالله لأن يهدي الله بك رجلاً واحداً خير لك من حمر النعم" ((متفق عليه)).
English Translation
Hadrat Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be well pleased with him) reported:Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated on the day of the Khaibar Battle, "I will give this banner to a person at whose hands Allah will grant victory; a man who loves Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and Allah and His Messenger love him also." The people spent the night thinking as to whom it would be given. When it was morning, the people hastened to Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Every one of them was hoping that the banner would be given to him. He (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) asked, "Where is Hadrat 'Ali bin Abu Talib?" They said: "O Beloved Messenger of Allah! His eyes are sore." He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) then sent for him and when he came, Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) applied his saliva to his eyes and supplicated. Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be well pleased with him) recovered as if he had no ailment at all. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) conferred upon him the banner. Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: ''O Beloved Messenger of Allah, shall I fight against them until they are like us?" Thereupon he (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) said, "Advance cautiously until you reach their open places; thereafter, invite them to Islam and inform them what is obligatory for them from the Rights of Allah, for, by Allah, if Allah guides even one person through you that is better for you than possessing a whole lot of red camels"..
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابو العباس سہل بن سعد ساعدی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے خیبر کے دن ارشاد فرمایا: کل میں یہ جھنڈا ایسے شخص کو دوں گا جس کے ہاتھ پر اللہ تعالیٰ فتح عطا فرمائے گا، وہ اللہ اور اس کے رسول سے محبت کرتا ہے اور اللہ اور اس کا رسول اس سے محبت کرتے ہیں۔ لوگوں نے ساری رات اس بحث میں گزاری کہ کسے دیا جائے گا۔ صبح جب لوگ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آئے تو ہر ایک کو امید تھی کہ اسے ملے گا۔ آپ نے فرمایا: حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کہاں ہیں؟ بتایا گیا کہ ان کی آنکھوں میں تکلیف ہے۔ آپ نے بلایا، اپنا لعاب مبارک ان کی آنکھوں میں لگایا تو وہ ایسے شفایاب ہو گئے جیسے کبھی تکلیف ہی نہ تھی۔ آپ نے انہیں جھنڈا عطا فرمایا۔ حضرت علی کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا میں ان سے اس وقت تک لڑوں جب تک وہ ہماری طرح نہ ہو جائیں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: آرام سے چلو یہاں تک کہ ان کے میدان میں اترو، پھر انہیں اسلام کی دعوت دو اور انہیں بتاؤ کہ ان پر اللہ کے جو حقوق ہیں۔ اللہ کی قسم! اگر اللہ تعالیٰ تمہارے ذریعے ایک شخص کو بھی ہدایت دے دے تو یہ تمہارے لیے سرخ اونٹوں سے بہتر ہے۔ (متفق علیہ)
