English Translation
The conqueror of Persia, Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), says: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) visited me during the Farewell Pilgrimage when I was afflicted with such pain that I had come close to death. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you know the pain I am in, and I am a wealthy man with no heir except one daughter. Shall I give away two-thirds of my wealth in charity?" He said: "No." I said: "Shall I give away half of my wealth in charity?" He said: "No. Give away a third in charity, and even a third is much. If you leave your heirs wealthy, that is better than leaving them destitute, begging from people with outstretched hands. And whatever you spend seeking the pleasure of Allah, you will be rewarded for it, even the morsel you place in your wife's mouth." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, will I be left behind after my companions?" He said: "If you are left behind (that is, remain alive) and do a deed by which the pleasure of Allah is sought, your rank will be raised and elevated. And perhaps you will live on, so that some people will benefit from you and others will be harmed. O Allah, complete the migration (hijrah) of my companions and do not turn them back on their heels. But alas for poor Sa'd bin Khawlah!" The narrator said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) expressed grief over him because he died in Makkah itself. [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 982]
Urdu Translation
فاتح ایران سیدنا سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے حجۃ الوداع میں میری عیادت کی جس میں میں ایسے درد میں مبتلا تھا کہ موت کے قریب ہو گیا تھا۔ میں نے عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! مجھے جیسا درد ہے آپ جانتے ہیں اور میں مالدار آدمی ہوں اور میرا وارث سوا ایک بیٹی کے اور کوئی نہیں ہے، کیا میں دو تہائی مال خیرات کر دوں؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا”نہیں“۔ میں نے عرض کیا آدھا مال خیرات کر دوں؟ تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ نہیں۔ ایک تہائی خیرات کر اور ایک تہائی بھی بہت ہے۔ اگر تو اپنے وارثوں کو مالدار چھوڑ جائے تو اس سے بہتر ہے کہ تو انہیں محتاج چھوڑ کر جائے کہ وہ لوگوں کے سامنے ہاتھ پھیلاتے پھریں۔ اور تو جو کچھ اللہ تعالیٰ کی رضامندی کے لئے خرچ کرے گا تو اس کا ثواب تجھے ملے گا یہاں تک کہ اس لقمے کا بھی جو تو اپنی بیوی کے منہ میں ڈالے۔ میں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! کیا میں اپنے اصحاب سے پیچھے رہ جاؤں گا؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اگر تو پیچھے رہے گا (یعنی زندہ رہے گا) اور ایسا عمل کرے گا جس سے اللہ تعالیٰ کی خوشی منظور ہو، تو تیرا درجہ بڑھے گا اور بلند ہو گا اور شاید تو زندہ رہے، یہاں تک کہ تجھ سے بعض لوگوں کو فائدہ ہو اور بعض لوگوں کو نقصان۔ یا اللہ! میرے اصحاب کی ہجرت پوری کر دے اور ان کو ان کی ایڑیوں پر مت پھیر لیکن بیچارہ سعد بن خولہ! راوی نے کہا کہ ان کے لئے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اس لئے رنج کا اظہار کیا کہ وہ مکہ میں ہی فوت ہو گئے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 982]
