English Translation
Narrated Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): When we prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), at the end of the prayer we would say to the right and left "As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" while also gesturing with the hand. So (seeing this) the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "You gesture with your hands like the tails of restive horses swishing. It is enough for you, while in the sitting, to place your hands on your thighs and, turning your face to the right and to the left, say 'As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.'"
Urdu Translation
سیدنا جابر بن سمرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہجب ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ نماز پڑھتے تو نماز کے اختتام پر دائیں بائیں السلام علیکم ورحمتہ اللہ کہتے ہوئے ہاتھ سے اشارہ بھی کرتے تھے۔ تو (یہ دیکھ کر) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم لوگ اپنے ہاتھ سے اس طرح اشارہ کرتے ہو جیسے شریر گھوڑوں کی دمیں ہلتی ہیں، تمہیں یہی کافی ہے کہ تم قعدہ میں اپنی رانوں پر ہاتھ رکھے ہوئے دائیں اور بائیں منہ موڑ کر السلام علیکم ورحمۃ اللہ کہا کرو۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 311]
