English Translation
The Mother of the Believers Aisha as-Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) recited this verse: "He it is who has revealed to you the Book, in it are verses that are clear (muhkam) — they are the foundation of the Book — and others that are ambiguous (mutashabih). As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they pursue the ambiguous verses, seeking discord and seeking (to interpret) their meaning; but none knows their meaning except Allah. And those firmly grounded in knowledge say: We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord. And none takes heed except those of understanding." The Mother of the Believers said: After the recitation, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When you see those who pursue the ambiguous verses, beware of them, for they are the ones whom Allah has named (in the Qur'an)." (Meaning: there is deviation in their hearts, so the believers should keep away from such people.)
Urdu Translation
ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے یہ آیت پڑھی کہ”اللہ تعالیٰ وہ ہے جس نے تجھ پر کتاب اتاری، اس میں بعض آیتیں مضبوط (محکم) ہیں، وہ تو کتاب کی جڑ ہیں اور بعض متشابہ (یعنی گول مول یا چھپے مطلب کی)۔ پھر جن لوگوں کے دل میں گمراہی ہے، وہ متشابہ آیتوں کا کھوج کرتے ہیں اور فساد چاہتے ہیں اور اس کا مطلب چاہتے ہیں حالانکہ اس کا مطلب اللہ کے سوا کوئی نہیں جانتا اور جو پکے علم والے ہیں، وہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم اس پر ایمان لائے سب آیتیں ہمارے رب کے پاس سے آئی ہیں اور نصیحت وہی سنتے ہیں جو عقل رکھتے ہیں“ام المؤمنین کہتی ہیں کہ (تلاوت کے بعد) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ جب تم ان لوگوں کو دیکھو جو متشابہ آیات کا کھوج کرتے ہیں تو ان سے بچو کہ وہی لوگ ہیں جن کا اللہ تعالیٰ نے (قرآن میں) نام لیا ہے۔ (یعنی ان کے دلوں میں کجی ہے اس لئے ایمان والوں کو ایسے لوگوں سے بچنا چاہیئے)[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2126]
