English Translation
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "How wretched is one of you who says: I have forgotten such-and-such a verse. Rather, he should say: I have been made to forget. And keep attending to the Qur'an and remembering it, for it slips away from the breasts of people more readily than animals whose leg is tied."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: تم میں سے بہت برا ہے وہ شخص جو یہ کہے کہ میں فلاں فلاں آیت بھول گیا ہوں بلکہ یوں کہنا چاہئے کہ بھلا دیا گیا ہوں اور قرآن کا خیال اور یاد داشت رکھو کہ وہ لوگوں کے سینوں سے ان جانوروں سے زیادہ بھاگنے والا ہے جن کی ایک ٹانگ بندھی ہو۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2110]
