English Translation
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Bahrain to collect its tribute (jizya), for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had made peace with the people of Bahrain and had appointed Sayyiduna al-Ala ibn al-Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him) as governor over them. Then Sayyiduna Abu Ubayda (may Allah be pleased with him) came with that wealth from Bahrain. When this news reached the Ansar, they prayed the Fajr prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When he (peace be upon him) finished the prayer and turned, the Ansar came before him. He (peace be upon him) saw them and smiled, and said: "I think you have heard that Abu Ubayda has come with some wealth from Bahrain (and you have gathered today in the hope of receiving some of it)." They said: Indeed, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace be upon him) said: "Rejoice, and hope for that which pleases you. By Allah, I do not fear poverty for you, but I fear that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those before you, and then you will vie with one another over it as they vied, and it (the vying, or the world) will destroy you as it destroyed those people."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا عمرو بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سیدنا ابوعبیدہ بن الجراح رضی اللہ عنہ کو بحرین کی طرف وہاں کا جزیہ لینے کو بھیجا اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے بحرین والوں سے صلح کر لی تھی اور ان پر سیدنا علاء بن حضرمی رضی اللہ عنہ کو حاکم مقرر کیا تھا۔ پھر سیدنا ابوعبیدہ رضی اللہ عنہ وہ مال بحرین سے لے کر آئے۔ یہ خبر انصار کو پہنچی تو انہوں نے فجر کی نماز رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ پڑھی۔ جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز سے فارغ ہو کر پھرے تو انصار آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے سامنے آ گئے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان کو دیکھ کر تبسم فرمایا اور فرمایا کہ میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ تم نے سنا کہ ابوعبیدہ کے بحرین سے کچھ مال لے کر آنے کا سن لیا ہے؟ (اور تم اسی خیال سے آج جمع ہوئے کہ مال ملے گا) انہوں نے کہا کہ بیشک یا رسول اللہ! آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ خوش ہو جاؤ اور اس بات کی امید رکھو جس سے تم خوش ہوتے ہو۔ پس اللہ کی قسم! مجھے تم پر فقیری کا ڈر نہیں، لیکن مجھے اس کا ڈر ہے کہ دنیا تم پر کشادہ ہو جائے گی جیسے تم سے پہلے لوگوں پر کشادہ ہوئی تھی، پھر ایک دوسرے سے زیادہ شوق کرنے لگو جیسے اگلے لوگوں نے شوق کیا تھا اور وہ (شوق یا وہ دنیا) تمہیں ہلاک کر دے جیسے اس نے ان لوگوں کو ہلاک کیا تھا۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2080]
