English Translation
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed through the marketplace while coming into Medina from the direction of a highland settlement, and the people were on one side of him or on both sides of him. He (peace be upon him) saw a dead lamb with small ears or clipped ears. He took hold of its ear, then said: "Which of you would take this for a dirham?" The people said: We would not want to take it even for a dirham (i.e., in exchange for anything). What would we do with it? He (peace be upon him) said: "Would you like it to be given to you?" The people said: By Allah! Even if it were alive it would have a defect, for its ears are very small; and now it is dead, so who would take it? He (peace be upon him) said: "By Allah! The world is even more contemptible in the sight of Allah than this is contemptible in your sight."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمبازار میں سے گزرے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکسی عالیہ کی طرف سے مدینہ میں آ رہے تھے اور لوگ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ایک طرف یا دونوں طرف تھے۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ایک چھوٹے کانوں والا یا کٹے ہوئے کانوں والا بھیڑ کا بچہ دیکھا جو کہ مرا ہوا تھا۔ آپ نے اس کا کان پکڑا، پھر فرمایا کہ تم میں سے یہ ایک درہم میں کون لیتا ہے؟ لوگوں نے کہا کہ ہم ایک درہم میں بھی اس کو لینا نہیں چاہتے (یعنی کسی چیز کے بدلے) اور ہم اس کو کیا کریں گے؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم چاہتے ہو کہ یہ تمہیں مل جائے؟ لوگوں نے کہا کہ اللہ کی قسم! اگر یہ زندہ ہوتا، تب بھی اس میں عیب تھا کہ اس کے کان بہت چھوٹے ہیں، پھر یہ تو مردہ ہے، اس کو کون لے گا؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ اللہ کی قسم! دنیا اللہ کے نزدیک اس سے بھی زیادہ ذلیل ہے جیسے یہ تمہارے نزدیک ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2078]
