English Translation
Narrated Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) heard some talk of his Companions (that was bad), so he delivered a sermon and said, "Paradise and Hell were brought before me, and I have never seen good like today's good and evil like today's evil (that is, the blessings in Paradise and the torment in Hell). If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much." Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "No day harder than that day passed over the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). They covered their heads and the sound of weeping came from them." Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said, "We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as our Prophet." A man stood up and said, "Who was my father?" He (peace be upon him) said, "Your father was so-and-so (naming him)." Then this verse was revealed: "O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if they were shown to you, would displease you." [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1598]
Urdu Translation
سیدنا انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے اپنے اصحاب کی کوئی بات سنی (جو بری تھی) تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے خطبہ پڑھا اور فرمایا کہ میرے سامنے جنت اور دوزخ لائی گئی اور میں نے آج کی سی بہتری اور آج کی سی برائی کبھی نہیں دیکھی (یعنی جنت میں نعمتیں اور دوزخ میں عذاب)۔ اگر تم وہ کچھ جانتے جو میں جانتا ہوں تو البتہ تم لوگ کم ہنستے اور بہت زیادہ روتے۔ سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے اصحاب رضی اللہ عنہم پر اس دن سے زیادہ کوئی سخت دن نہیں گزرا۔ انہوں نے اپنے سروں کو چھپا لیا اور رونے کی آواز ان سے نکلنے لگی۔ پھر سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کھڑے ہوئے اور کہا کہ ہم اللہ تعالیٰ کے رب ہونے پر، اسلام کے دین ہونے پر اور محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) کے نبی ہونے پر راضی ہو گئے۔ ایک شخص اٹھا اور کہنے لگا کہ میرا باپ کون تھا؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تیرا باپ فلاں شخص تھا (اس کا نام بتا دیا) تب یہ آیت نازل ہوئی کہ”اے ایمان والو! ایسی باتیں مت پوچھو کہ اگر وہ ظاہر ہوں تو تم کو بری لگیں“۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1598]
