English Translation

Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that captives were brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Among them was a woman who was searching frantically. When she found a child among the captives, she took him, pressed him to her chest, and nursed him. The Prophet said: "Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?" We said: "No, not if she is able to prevent it." He said: "Allah is more merciful to His servants than this woman is to her child."
