حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الرَّازِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدَةَ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، كَانَ يَجْهَرُ بِهَؤُلاَءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ يَقُولُ سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ . وَعَنْ قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُ كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ يُخْبِرُهُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ فَكَانُوا يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ بِـ { الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ} لاَ يَذْكُرُونَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ فِي أَوَّلِ قِرَاءَةٍ وَلاَ فِي آخِرِهَا .
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Mihran al-Razi narrated to us, he said al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, he said al-Awza'i narrated to us from Abda that Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him) used to recite these words aloud: 'Subhanaka Allahumma wa bi hamdika, tabaraka ismuka wa ta'ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghayruk' (Glory be to You O Allah with Your praise; blessed is Your Name and exalted is Your Majesty, and there is no god besides You). And (al-Awza'i narrated) from Qatada, who wrote to him informing him of his narration from Hadrat Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be well pleased with him), who narrated to Qatada, saying: I prayed behind the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), Hadrat Abu Bakr, Hadrat Umar, and Hadrat Uthman (may Allah be well pleased with them all); they would begin with 'Al-hamdu lillahi Rabb al-Alamin' (All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds) and would not recite 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' (aloud) at the beginning of the recitation nor at its end (i.e., at the start of the next surah).
Urdu Translation
ہم سے محمد بن مہران رازی نے حدیث بیان کی، کہا ہم سے ولید بن مسلم نے حدیث بیان کی، کہا ہم سے اوزاعی نے عبدہ سے روایت کی کہ حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ یہ کلمات بلند آواز سے پڑھتے تھے: 'سبحانک اللّٰہم وبحمدک، تبارک اسمک وتعالیٰ جدک، ولا الہ غیرک' (اے اللہ! تو اپنی حمد کے ساتھ پاک ہے، تیرا نام بڑا بابرکت ہے اور تیری عظمت و شان بلند ہے اور تیرے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں)۔ اور (اوزاعی نے) قتادہ سے روایت کی کہ انہوں نے اوزاعی کو لکھ کر بھیجا، حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے اپنی روایت کی خبر دیتے ہوئے، کہ انہوں نے قتادہ کو حدیث سنائی، فرمایا: میں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم، حضرت ابو بکر، حضرت عمر اور حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہم کے پیچھے نماز پڑھی، وہ (نماز کا) آغاز 'الحمد للہ رب العالمین' سے فرماتے تھے، (بلند آواز سے) 'بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم' نہیں پڑھتے تھے، نہ قراءت کے شروع میں اور نہ اس کے آخر میں (یعنی دوسری سورت کے آغاز پر)۔
