Hadrat Thauban (may Allah be well pleased with him), the freed slave of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), said: While I was standing beside the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) one of the rabbis of the Jews came and said: Peace be upon you, O Muhammad. I pushed him back with a push that he was going to fall. Upon this he said: Why do you push me? I said: Why don't you say: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)? The Jew said: We call him by the name by which he was named by his family. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'My name is Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) with which I was named by my family.' The Jew said: I have come to ask you (something). The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Should that thing be of any benefit to you, if I tell you that?' He (the Jew) said: I will lend my ears to it. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) drew a line with the help of the stick that he had with him and then stated: 'Ask (whatever you like).' Thereupon the Jew said: Where would the human beings be on the Day when the earth would change into another earth and the heavens too (would change into other heavens)? The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'They would be in darkness beside the Bridge.' He (the Jew) again said: Who amongst people would be the first to cross (this bridge)? He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'They would be the poor amongst the refugees.' The Jew said: What would constitute their breakfast when they would enter Paradise? He (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'A caul of the fish-liver.' He (the Jew) said: What would be their food after this? He (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'A bullock which was fed in the different quarters of Paradise would be slaughtered for them.' He (the Jew) said: What would be their drink? He (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'They would be given drink from the fountain which is named Salsabil.' He (the Jew) said: I have come to ask you about a thing which no one amongst the people on the earth knows except a the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) or one or two men besides him. He (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Would it benefit you if I tell you that?' He (the Jew) said: I would lend ears to that. He then said: I have come to ask you about the child. He (the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'The reproductive substance of man is white and that of woman (i.e. ovum central portion) yellow, and when they have sexual intercourse and the male's substance (chromosomes and genes) prevails upon the female's substance (chromosomes and genes), it is the male child that is created by Allah's Decree, and when the substance of the female prevails upon the substance contributed by the male, a female child is formed by the Decree of Allah.' The Jew said: What you have stated is true; verily you are a the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). He then returned and went away. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'He asked me about such and such things of which I had no knowledge till Allah gave me that.'

ابو توبہ نے، جو ربیع بن نافع ہیں، ہم سے حدیث بیان کی، کہا: حضرت معاویہ بن سلام نے ہمیں اپنے بھائی زید سے حدیث سنائی، کہا: انہوں نے ابو سلام سے سنا، کہا: مجھ سے ابو اسماء رحبی نے بیان کیا کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے آزاد کردہ غلام حضرت ثوبان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے انہیں یہ حدیث سنائی، کہا: میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس کھڑا تھا کہ ایک یہودی عالم (حبر) آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور کہا: اے محمد! آپ پر سلام ہو، میں نے اس کو اتنے زور سے دھکا دیا کہ وہ گرتے گرتے بچا۔ اس نے کہا: مجھے دھکا کیوں دیتے ہو؟ میں نے کہا: تم یا رسول اللہ نہیں کہہ سکتے؟ یہودی نے کہا: ہم تو آپ کو اسی نام سے پکارتے ہیں جو آپ کے گھر والوں نے آپ کا رکھا ہے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''یقیناً میرا نام محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہے جو میرے گھر والوں نے رکھا ہے۔'' یہودی بولا: میں آپ سے پوچھنے آیا ہوں۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اسے ارشاد فرمایا: ''اگر میں تمہیں کچھ بتاؤں گا تو کیا تمہیں اس سے فائدہ ہو گا؟'' اس نے کہا: میں اپنے دونوں کانوں سے توجہ سے سنوں گا۔ تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ایک چھڑی، جو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس تھی، زمین پر آہستہ آہستہ ماری اور ارشاد فرمایا: ''پوچھو۔'' یہودی نے کہا: جس دن زمین دوسری زمین سے بدلے گی اور آسمان (بھی) بدلے جائیں گے تو لوگ کہاں ہوں گے؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''وہ پل (صراط) سے (ذرا) پہلے اندھیرے میں ہوں گے۔'' اس نے کہا: سب سے پہلے (پل) پار کرنے والے کون ہوں گے؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''فقرائے مہاجرین۔'' یہودی نے پوچھا: جب وہ جنت میں داخل ہوں گے تو ان کو کیا پیش کیا جائے گا؟ تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''مچھلی کے جگر کا زائد حصہ۔'' اس نے کہا: اس کے بعد ان کا کھانا کیا ہوگا؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''ان کے لیے جنت میں بیل ذبح کیا جائے گا جو اس کے اطراف میں چرتا پھرتا ہے۔'' اس نے کہا: اس (کھانے) پر ان کا مشروب کیا ہو گا؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''اس (جنت) کے سلسبیل نامی چشمے سے۔'' اس نے کہا: آپ نے سچ فرمایا، پھر کہا: میں آپ سے ایک چیز کے بارے میں پوچھنے آیا ہوں جسے اہلِ زمین سے محض ایک نبی جانتا ہے یا ایک دو اور انسان۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''اگر میں تمہیں بتا دوں تو کیا تمہیں اس سے فائدہ ہوگا؟'' اس نے کہا: میں کان لگا کر سنوں گا۔ اس نے کہا: میں آپ سے اولاد کے بارے میں پوچھنے آیا ہوں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''مرد کا پانی سفید ہوتا ہے اور عورت کا پانی زرد، جب دونوں ملتے ہیں اور مرد کا مادۂ منویہ عورت کی منی سے غالب آ جاتا ہے تو اللہ کے حکم سے دونوں کے ہاں بیٹا پیدا ہوتا ہے اور جب عورت کی منی مرد کی منی پر غالب آ جاتی ہے تو اللہ عزوجل کے حکم سے دونوں کے ہاں بیٹی پیدا ہوتی ہے۔'' یہودی نے کہا: آپ نے واقعی صحیح ارشاد فرمایا اور آپ یقیناً نبی ہیں، پھر وہ پلٹ کر چلا گیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ''اس نے مجھ سے جس چیز کے بارے میں سوال کیا اس وقت تک مجھے اس میں سے کسی چیز کا کچھ علم نہ تھا حتیٰ کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے مجھے اس کا علم عطا فرما دیا۔''
