Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، أَنْبَأَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ " لاَ تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلْمَ لِتُبَاهُوا بِهِ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَلاَ لِتُمَارُوا بِهِ السُّفَهَاءَ وَلاَ تَخَيَّرُوا بِهِ الْمَجَالِسَ فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَالنَّارُ النَّارُ " .
English Translation
It is narrated from Hadrat Jabir bin Hadrat 'Abdullah (may Allah be well pleased with him) that:The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Do not seek knowledge in order to show off in front of the scholars, or to argue with the foolish, and do not choose the best seat in a gathering, due to it (i.e. the knowledge which you have learned) for whoever does that, the Fire, the Fire (awaits him)
Urdu Translation
حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تم علم کو علماء پر فخر کرنے یا کم عقلوں سے بحث و تکرار کے لیے نہ سیکھو، اور علم دین کو مجالس میں اچھے مقام کے حصول کا ذریعہ نہ بناؤ، جس نے ایسا کیا تو اس کے لیے جہنم ہے، جہنم ۱؎۔
