Narrated Mu'awiyah bin Al-Hakam As-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him): While we were praying with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), a man from the congregation sneezed, and I said: 'YarhamukAllah (May Allah have mercy on you).' The people stared at me with their eyes. I said: 'May my mother lose me! What is wrong with you that you are looking at me?' They began striking their thighs with their hands. When I saw them trying to silence me, I became quiet. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer -- may my father and mother be sacrificed for him -- by Allah, I have never seen a teacher before or after him better in teaching than him. By Allah, he did not rebuke me, nor scold me, nor strike me. He simply said: "This prayer is not suitable for any ordinary speech of people. It is only for Tasbeeh (glorification), Takbir (magnification), and recitation of the Quran." Or as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have recently come from the days of ignorance, and Allah has brought Islam. Among us are people who go to soothsayers.' He said: "Do not go to them." I said: 'Among us are people who seek omens from birds.' He said: "That is something they find in their hearts, so let it not prevent them (from proceeding)." I said: 'Among us are people who draw lines (for divination).' He said: "There was a prophet who used to draw lines; whoever's line coincides with his, then that is correct." He continued: 'I had a slave girl who used to tend my sheep near Uhud and Al-Jawwaniyyah. One day I checked on her and found that a wolf had taken one of the sheep. I am a man who gets angry as people do, so I slapped her. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned this to him, and he regarded it as a grave matter.' I said: 'Shall I not set her free?' He said: "Bring her to me." So I brought her to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked her: "Where is Allah?" She said: 'In the heaven.' He asked: "Who am I?" She said: 'You are the Messenger of Allah.' He said: "She is a believer; set her free."

سیدنا معاویہ بن حکم سُلمی رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ایک دفعہ ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ نماز پڑھ رہے تھے کہ ایک نمازی نے چھینک ماری، تو میں نے کہ دیا«يَرْحَمُكَ اللهُ»لوگ مجھے گھور کر دیکھنے لگے، میں نے کہا: تمہاری مائیں تمہیں گم پائیں، مجھے کیوں دیکھ رہے ہو؟ انہوں نے رانوں پر ہاتھ مارنا شروع کیے، جب میں نے دیکھا کہ وہ مجھے چپ کرا رہے ہیں، تو میں چپ کر گیا۔ میرے ماں باپ آپ پر قربان ہوں، اللہ کی قسم! میں نے آپ سے پہلے یا آپ کے بعد کوئی استاذ ایسا نہیں دیکھا، جو آپ سے بہتر تعلیم دینے والا ہو، جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز سے فارغ ہوئے، تو اللہ کی قسم! نہ آپ نے مجھے جھڑکا، نہ برا بھلا کہا، نہ مارا، صرف اتنا فرمایا: یہ نماز ہے، اس میں باتیں کرنا جائز نہیں۔ اس میں تو صرف تسبیح، تکبیر اور تلاوت قرآن ہوتی ہے۔ یا پھر جیسے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا۔ (معاویہ بن حکم رضی اللہ عنہ) کہتے ہیں: میں نے عرض کی: اللہ کے رسول! میں نیا نیا مسلمان ہوا ہوں، اللہ نے ہمیں اسلام کی نعمت سے نوازا ہے، ابھی بھی ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ کاہنوں (غیب کی خبریں بتانے والے) کے پاس جاتے ہیں، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: آپ نہ جایا کریں۔ عرض کی: ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ پرندوں کے ذریعے فال لیتے ہیں؟ فرمایا: یہ محض ان کا وہم ہے۔ یہ فال وغیرہ انہیں (کسی کام سے) نہ روکے۔ عرض کی: ہم میں سے کچھ لوگ خط (لکیریں) کھینچتے ہیں؟، فرمایا: ایک نبی (ادریس علیہ السلام) خط کھینچا کرتے تھے، پس جس کا خط اس کے موافق ہو گیا، وہ تو درست ہے۔ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کی: میری ایک لونڈی احد اور جوانیہ پہاڑ کی طرف بکریاں چرایا کرتی تھی، ایک دن میں اس کے پاس گیا، تو ایک بھیڑیا اس کی بکریوں میں سے ایک بکری لے کے جا چکا تھا، چونکہ میں بھی انسان ہوں، مجھے بھی ان کی طرح غصہ آ گیا، میں نے اس (لونڈی) کو زور دار تھپڑ مار دیا، میں نبیصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے پاس آیا اور آپ کے سامنے یہ واقعہ ذکر کیا، تو آپ نے اسے میرے حق میں بہت بڑا گناہ خیال کیا۔ عرض کی کہ میں اسے آزاد نہ کر دوں؟ فرمایا: اسے میرے پاس لائیں۔ میں اسے آپ کے پاس لے آیا، تو آپ نے اس سے پوچھا: اللہ کہاں ہے؟ اس نے کہا: آسمان پر، آپ نے پوچھا: میں کون ہوں؟ اس نے کہا: آپ اللہ کے رسول ہیں، فرمایا: اسے آزاد کر دیں، یہ مؤمنہ ہے۔[المنتقى ابن الجارود/كتاب الصلاة/حدیث: 212]
