English Translation

Ahmad bin Ali bin al-Muthanna narrated to us, Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us from Mansur from Rib'i from Hudhayfah who said: The people used to ask the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me. So I said: O Messenger of Allah, we were in ignorance and evil, then Allah brought us this good. Will there be any evil after this good? He said: 'Yes.' I said: Will there be any good after that evil? He said: 'Yes, but it will have some impurity.' I said: What will its impurity be? He said: 'People who guide others to other than my guidance. You will approve of some of their actions and disapprove of others.' I said: Will there be any evil after that good? He said: 'Yes, callers at the gates of Hell. Whoever responds to them, they will throw him into it.' I said: O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us. He said: 'They are from our own people and speak our language.' I said: What do you command me to do if I reach that time? He said: 'Stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader.' I said: What if they have neither? He said: 'Then withdraw from all those groups, even if you have to bite onto the root of a tree until death comes to you while you are in that state.'
