أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ * عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ أَخَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَالنَّاسُ يَنْتَظِرُونَ الصَّلَاةَ فَقَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَدْيَانِ أَحَدٌ يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ غَيْرُكُمْ» ثُمَّ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ {لَيْسُوا سَوَاءً مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ أُمَّةٌ قَائِمَةٌ يَتْلُونَ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ} إِلَى {يَسْجُدُونَ}
English Translation
Ibn Mas'ud narrated: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the Isha prayer, then he came out to the mosque while the people were waiting for the prayer. He said: 'Indeed, there is no one among the people of religions who remembers Allah at this hour except you.' Then this verse was revealed to him: 'They are not equal. Among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allah' to 'prostrating [in prayer].'
