أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ الْعَدْلُ بِبَغْدَادَ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ الْبَلَدِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ الْمَدَنِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ يَحْيَىِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِأَزْوَاجِهِ «أَسْرَعُكُنَّ لُحُوقًا بِي أَطْوَلُكُنَّ يَدًا» قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ فَكُنَّا إِذَا اجْتَمَعْنَا فِي بَيْتِ إِحْدَانَا بَعْدَ وَفَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَمُدُّ أَيْدِيَنَا فِي الْجِدَارِ نَتَطَاوَلُ فَلَمْ نَزَلْ نَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةً قَصِيرَةً وَلَمْ تَكُنْ أَطْوَلَنَا فَعَرَفْنَا حِينَئِذٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ إِنَّمَا أَرَادَ بِطُولِ الْيَدِ الصَّدَقَةَ قَالَ «وَكَانَتْ زَيْنَبُ امْرَأَةٌ صَنَّاعَةَ الْيَدِ فَكَانَتْ تَدْبُغُ وَتَخْرُزُ وَتَصَدَّقُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ﷻ» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ على شرط مسلم
English Translation
Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Aisha (may Allah be well pleased with her) narrated that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated to his wives: "The fastest of you to join me will be the one with the longest hand." Hadrat Aisha (may Allah be well pleased with her) said: "After the passing of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), whenever we would gather in the house of one of us, we would stretch our hands against the wall, trying to see who had the longest hand. We kept doing this until Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be well pleased with her), the wife of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), passed away — and she was a short woman, not the tallest among us. Then we realized that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) meant by 'the longest hand' the most generous in charity." He said: "Zaynab was a woman skilled with her hands — she would tan leather, sew, and give in charity in the way of Allah, the Exalted." This hadith is authentic according to the condition of Muslim.
Urdu Translation
اُمّ المؤمنین حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنی ازواج مطہرات سے ارشاد فرمایا: "تم میں سب سے جلد مجھ سے ملنے والی وہ ہوگی جس کا ہاتھ سب سے لمبا ہے۔" حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا نے فرمایا: حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی وفات کے بعد جب ہم کسی کے گھر جمع ہوتیں تو دیوار پر ہاتھ لگا کر دیکھتیں کہ کس کا ہاتھ سب سے لمبا ہے۔ ہم یہ کرتی رہیں یہاں تک کہ اُمّ المؤمنین حضرت زینب بنت جحش رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا، حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی زوجہ، کا انتقال ہوا — اور وہ چھوٹے قد کی تھیں اور ہم میں سب سے لمبی نہیں تھیں۔ تب ہمیں معلوم ہوا کہ حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی مراد ہاتھ کی لمبائی سے صدقہ کی کثرت تھی۔ زینب ہنرمند خاتون تھیں — چمڑا رنگتیں، سیتیں، اور اللہ کی راہ میں صدقہ کرتیں۔ یہ حدیث مسلم کی شرط پر صحیح ہے۔
