حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ السَّكَنِ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ «إِذَا سُئِلَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَكَانَ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ بِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَكَانَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ قَالَ بِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ قَالَ بِمَا قَالَ بِهِ أَبُو بَكْرِ وَعُمَرُ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ قَالَ بِرَأْيِهِ» «هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَفِيهِ تَوْقِيفٌ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» على شرطهما
English Translation
Ali ibn Hamshaz narrated to us... it is reported that Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both), when asked about something: if it was in the Book of Allah, he would speak according to it. If it was not in the Book of Allah but there was something from the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) regarding it, he would speak according to that. If there was nothing from the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), he would speak according to what Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said. If Abu Bakr and Umar had nothing regarding it, he would speak according to his own reasoning. This hadith is authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, and it contains a ruling methodology; they did not include it.
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما کے بارے میں روایت ہے کہ جب ان سے کسی بات کے بارے میں پوچھا جاتا: اگر وہ کتاب اللہ میں ہوتی تو اس کے مطابق فرماتے۔ اگر کتاب اللہ میں نہ ہوتی اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے اس بارے میں کچھ ہوتا تو اس کے مطابق فرماتے۔ اگر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے بھی کچھ نہ ہوتا تو جو ابو بکر و عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا ہو اس کے مطابق فرماتے۔ اگر ابو بکر و عمر سے بھی کچھ نہ ہوتا تو اپنی رائے سے فرماتے۔ یہ حدیث شیخین کی شرط پر صحیح ہے اور اس میں منہج کی تعلیم ہے؛ شیخین نے اسے تخریج نہیں کیا۔
