It is as if I can see ʿAli bin Abi Talib ؓ , riding the white mule of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he stood at the mountain pass of the Ansar during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said: O people, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ says: ʿThese are not the days of fasting, rather they are days of eating, drinking and remembering Allah.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 708) أَخْبَرَنِي يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ عَنْ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ الزُّرَقِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّهِ أَنَّهَا حَدَّثَتْهُ قَالَتْ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَلَى بَغْلَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْبَيْضَاءِ فِي شِعْبِ الْأَنْصَارِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ أَيَّامُ صِيَامٍ إِنَّهَا أَيَّامُ أَكْلٍ وَشُرْبٍ وَذِكْرٍ»
English Translation
The mother of Mas'ud ibn al-Hakam al-Zuraqi narrated: It is as though I can see Hadrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah ennoble his countenance) upon the white mule of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) at the mountain pass of the Ansar, and he was saying: 'O people, indeed the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: These are not days of fasting; they are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of Allah.'
Urdu Translation
مسعود بن الحکم الزرقی کی والدہ نے بیان کیا: گویا میں حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کو دیکھ رہی ہوں کہ وہ سرکارِ دو عالم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی سفید خچر پر انصار کی گھاٹی میں سوار تھے اور فرما رہے تھے: اے لوگو! بے شک سرکارِ دو عالم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: یہ روزے کے دن نہیں، بلکہ یہ کھانے، پینے اور اللہ کے ذکر کے دن ہیں۔
