Hadrat al-Harith al-Ash'ari (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Indeed, Allah revealed to Yahya ibn Zakariyya (upon them both be peace) five commandments: that he should act upon them and command the Children of Israel to act upon them. But it was as though he was slow in conveying them, so Isa (upon him be peace) came to him and said: Allah has commanded you with five words — that you should act upon them and command the Children of Israel to act upon them. Either you convey them, or I shall convey them. He said: O my brother, do not do so, for I fear that if you precede me in them, the earth may swallow me or I may be punished. So he gathered the Children of Israel in Bayt al-Maqdis until the mosque was full and people sat upon the balconies. Then he addressed them and said: Indeed, Allah has revealed to me five commandments — that I should act upon them and command the Children of Israel to act upon them. The first is that you associate nothing with Allah, for the likeness of one who associates partners with Allah is like a man who purchased a slave from his pure wealth with gold or silver, then settled him in a house and said: Work and deliver to me. But the slave began working and delivering to someone other than his master. Which of you would be pleased for his slave to be like that? Indeed, Allah created you and provides for you, so do not associate anything with Him. And when you stand for prayer, do not turn away, for Allah turns His Face toward the face of His servant as long as he does not turn away. And He commands you to fast, and the likeness of that is like a man in a group who has a pouch of musk — all of them love to find its fragrance — and indeed the breath of the fasting person is like the fragrance of musk. And He commands you to give charity, and the likeness of that is like a man whom the enemy has captured, and they bound his hands to his neck and brought him forward to strike his neck. He began saying: Would you accept that I ransom myself from you? And he kept giving little and much until he ransomed himself. And He commands you to remember Allah abundantly, and the likeness of the remembrance of Allah is like a man whose enemy pursued him in haste until he reached a fortified fortress and secured himself therein. Likewise, the servant does not find salvation from Shaytan except through the remembrance of Allah.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت حارث اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ سرکارِ دو عالم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت یحییٰ بن زکریا علیہما السلام پر پانچ باتیں وحی فرمائیں کہ وہ ان پر عمل کریں اور بنی اسرائیل کو ان پر عمل کرنے کا حکم دیں۔ مگر انہوں نے ان میں کچھ تاخیر کی، تو حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام ان کے پاس آئے اور فرمایا: اللہ نے تمہیں پانچ باتوں کا حکم دیا ہے کہ تم ان پر عمل کرو اور بنی اسرائیل کو ان پر عمل کرنے کا حکم دو۔ یا تو تم انہیں بتاؤ یا میں بتاتا ہوں۔ انہوں نے کہا: اے میرے بھائی! ایسا نہ کرو، مجھے ڈر ہے کہ اگر تم مجھ سے پہلے یہ باتیں پہنچا دو تو مجھے زمین میں دھنسا دیا جائے یا عذاب دیا جائے۔ پھر انہوں نے بنی اسرائیل کو بیت المقدس میں جمع کیا یہاں تک کہ مسجد بھر گئی اور لوگ چھجوں پر بیٹھ گئے۔ پھر انہوں نے خطبہ دیا اور فرمایا: بے شک اللہ نے مجھ پر پانچ باتیں وحی فرمائی ہیں کہ میں ان پر عمل کروں اور بنی اسرائیل کو ان پر عمل کرنے کا حکم دوں۔ پہلی بات یہ ہے کہ اللہ کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہ کرو، کیونکہ اللہ کے ساتھ شرک کرنے والے کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جس نے اپنے خالص مال سے سونے یا چاندی کے عوض ایک غلام خریدا، پھر اسے ایک گھر میں بسایا اور کہا: کام کرو اور مجھے حاصل دو۔ مگر غلام کام کرتا رہا اور اپنے مالک کے سوا کسی اور کو دیتا رہا۔ تم میں سے کون پسند کرے گا کہ اس کا غلام ایسا ہو؟ بے شک اللہ نے تمہیں پیدا کیا اور رزق دیا، پس اس کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہ کرو۔ اور جب تم نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہو تو ادھر ادھر نہ دیکھو، کیونکہ اللہ اپنے بندے کی طرف متوجہ رہتا ہے جب تک وہ ادھر ادھر نہ دیکھے۔ اور اس نے تمہیں روزے کا حکم دیا ہے اور اس کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جو ایک جماعت میں ہو اور اس کے پاس مشک کی پوٹلی ہو، سب چاہتے ہیں کہ اس کی خوشبو پائیں، اور بے شک روزے کی خوشبو مشک کی خوشبو جیسی ہے۔ اور اس نے تمہیں صدقے کا حکم دیا ہے اور اس کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جسے دشمن نے پکڑ لیا اور اس کے ہاتھ اس کی گردن سے باندھ دیے اور اسے قتل کے لیے آگے لائے۔ وہ کہنے لگا: کیا تم قبول کرو گے کہ میں اپنے آپ کو تم سے فدیہ دے کر چھڑا لوں؟ اور وہ تھوڑا اور بہت دیتا رہا یہاں تک کہ اس نے اپنے آپ کو چھڑا لیا۔ اور اس نے تمہیں اللہ کا کثرت سے ذکر کرنے کا حکم دیا ہے اور اللہ کے ذکر کی مثال اس شخص کی سی ہے جس کا دشمن تیزی سے اس کے پیچھے پڑا ہو یہاں تک کہ وہ ایک مضبوط قلعے میں پہنچ جائے اور اس میں اپنے آپ کو محفوظ کر لے۔ اسی طرح بندہ شیطان سے نجات نہیں پاتا مگر اللہ کے ذکر سے۔
