English Translation
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: 'When you see the crescent (of Ramadan), begin fasting, and when you see the crescent (of Shawwal), stop fasting. If clouds obstruct your view, then complete the count (of thirty days).'"
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا کہ جب تم (رمضان کا) چاند دیکھو تو روزے رکھنا شروع کر دو اور جب تم (عیدالفطر کا) چاند دیکھو تو روزہ رکھنا ترک کر دو پھر اگر تمہارا مطلع ابرآلود ہو (یعنی بادل چھا جائیں) تو تم اس کے لیے اندازہ کر لو (یعنی 30 پورے کر لو)۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 924]
