English Translation
Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "We were forbidden from mourning for the dead beyond three days, except for a husband, for whom mourning was prescribed for four months and ten days. During that period we would not apply kohl, nor use perfume, nor wear dyed garments except 'asb (cloth whose yarn was dyed before weaving). We were permitted a small amount of qust azfar (a type of fragrance) after purification from menstruation. And we were forbidden from following funeral processions."
Urdu Translation
سیدہ ام عطیہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں(رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے دور میں) ہمیں کسی میت پر تین دن سے زیادہ سوگ کی ممانعت کی جاتی تھی مگر شوہر پرچار مہینہ دس دن تک سوگ کا حکم تھا اور ایسی حالت میں نہ ہم سرمہ لگاتیں نہ خوشبو لگاتیں اور نہ رنگیں کپڑا سوا عصب (جس کپڑے کا سوت بناوٹ سے پہلے رنگا گیا ہو) کے پہنتیں اور ہمیں طہارت کے بعد، جب کوئی ہم میں سے حائضہ ہو، تھوڑی کست اظفار (خوشبو) کی اجازت دیدی گئی تھی اور ہمیں جنازوں کے ہمراہ جانے کی ممانعت کر دی گئی تھی۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 212]
