English Translation
The Mother of the Believers, Aisha al-Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her), said that eleven women (of Yemen) gathered in one place and made a pact among themselves that each would describe the state of her husband and conceal nothing. The first woman said, "My husband is the meat of a lean camel placed on the top of a mountain: the path is not easy so that one could climb the peak, nor is the meat fat enough that one would bear the hardship of bringing it down." The second said, "As for describing my husband, how far can I go? I fear I will not be able to tell it all, but if I do describe him, I can mention all his faults, hidden and open." The third said, "My husband is a tall fellow; if I say anything I get divorce, and if I stay silent he leaves me suspended (neither married nor divorced)." The fourth said, "My husband is like the night of Tihama (moderate), neither too hot nor too cold (that is, always the same), no excessive fear and no great grief." The fifth said, "My husband, when he comes home, is like a leopard, and when he goes out he is a lion, and (he is so noble-natured) that he does not ask about whatever he left behind." The sixth said, "My husband is (such a glutton) that if he eats, he eats everything, and if he drinks, he gulps everything down, and when he sleeps, he lies alone. He never even extends his hand toward my belly, nor ever inquires about my sorrow or joy." The seventh said, "My husband is misguided, impotent, oppressive; every fault is present in his person. (If he speaks) he breaks (my) head or wounds (me) or does both." The eighth said, "My husband's touch is like the touch of a rabbit (that is, he has a delicate body), and his fragrance is like the fragrance of zarnab (a kind of grass)." The ninth said, "My husband has a lofty building (is noble), has a long sword-strap, is very generous; his house is near the assembly (he is a man of sound judgment)." The tenth said, "My husband's name is Malik (owner of property), and what praise can I give of Malik? (He is beyond whatever praises come to mind.) At his home there are many camels (kept for guests), and they go out to pasture little, and when they hear the sound of the lute, they are certain that now they are about to be slaughtered (for the guests)." The eleventh said, "My husband is Abu Zar, and what can be said of Abu Zar! He weighed down my ears with ornaments and filled my arms with fat, and he made me so happy that I began to think highly of myself. He fed me well and made me plump, and I too began to consider myself very plump. He found my family to be barely people of a few sheep (I was poor), then brought me to such a prosperous family that they had (the sound of) horses and (the sound of) camel-saddles, drivers of oxen on the right, and men winnowing grain. At his home, when I spoke, none would fault me, and when I slept, I would sleep till morning, and when I drank water, I would drink it in complete contentment. As for the mother of Abu Zar, that is my mother-in-law, she too was a most capable woman: her storeroom was always full and her house spacious. The son of Abu Zar, how good he was: of delicate body, slim, could sleep in the space of a drawn sword, and so little food that the foreleg of a four-month-old kid would fill his belly. As for the daughter of Abu Zar, glory be to Allah! Obedient to her parents, plump, so full that she filled out her wrapper. (Of such form and character that she was) a constant source of rage and fury to her co-wife. As for the maidservant of Abu Zar, she too is praiseworthy: she does not make our words known, always keeps the secrets of the house hidden, does not even steal food, does not leave rubbish in the house, but always keeps it swept clean. One day it happened that Abu Zar went out at a time when the milk vessel was being churned. Going out, what does he see but a woman with two children like leopard cubs playing under her arm with two pomegranates. Seeing her, he divorced me and married her. After that I married a noble man who rode a swift horse and held a Khatti spear in his hand. He too gave many bounties and gave me a pair of each kind of livestock, and said, 'O Umm Zar, eat yourself and feed your relatives too' (that is, he permitted me to be generous)." Umm Zar says, "If I were to gather all that he gave me, it would not reach even one small vessel of Abu Zar's." The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said that (hearing this whole story) the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "I am to you as Abu Zar was to Umm Zar." (Point of benefit: In one report the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Abu Zar divorced Umm Zar, but I will not do so." To this Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you. You treat me with even greater kindness, love, and affection than Abu Zar." Urdu Translation
ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں کہ(یمن کی) گیارہ عورتوں نے ایک جگہ جمع ہو کر باہم عہد و پیمان کیا کہ اپنے اپنے خاوندوں کا حال بیان کرو۔ کچھ نہ چھپاؤ۔ پہلی عورت بولی کہ میرا خاوند دبلے اونٹ کا گوشت ہے (جو) پہاڑ کی چوٹی پر رکھا ہو، نہ راستہ آسان ہے کہ چوٹی پر چڑھا جائے نہ وہ گوشت ہی ایسا فربہ ہے کہ اس کے لانے کی خاطر مصیبت اٹھائی جائے۔ دوسری نے کہا کہ میں اپنے خاوند کا حال بیان کروں تو کہاں تک کروں، میں ڈرتی ہوں کہ سب بیان نہ کر سکوں گی، اس پر بھی اگر بیان کروں تو اس کے کھلے چھپے عیب سب بیان کر سکتی ہوں۔ تیسری بولی کہ میرا خاوند لمبا تڑنگا ہے، اگر کوئی بات کروں تو طلاق ملتی ہے اور اگر خاموش رہوں تو مجھے معلق چھوڑ رکھا ہے۔ چوتھی نے کہا کہ میرا شوہر تہامہ کی رات کی طرح (متعدل ہے) نہ زیادہ گرم نہ بہت ٹھنڈا (یعنی ہمیشہ یکساں ہے) نہ زیادہ خوف نہ بہت غم۔ پانچویں نے کہا کہ میرا شوہر اگر گھر میں آئے تو چیتے کی مثال اور جب باہر جائے تو شیر (اور ایسا شریف المزاج) کہ جو چیز چھوڑ گیا اس کے بارے میں پوچھتا ہی نہیں۔ چھٹی نے کہا کہ میرا شوہر (ایسا پیٹو) ہے کہ اگر کھائے تو سب کھا جائے اور اگر پیے تو سب چٹ کر جائے اور جب سوئے تو اکیلا ہی پڑا رہے، میرے پیٹ کی طرف کبھی ہاتھ بھی نہیں بڑھاتا، نہ کبھی دکھ سکھ دریافت کرتا ہے۔ ساتویں نے کہا کہ میرا شوہر گمراہ ہے عاجز سینہ سے دبانے والا، ہر عیب اس کی ذات میں موجود ہے (اگر بات کرے تو) سر پھوڑ دے یا زخمی کر دے یا دونوں ہی کر گزرے) آٹھویں نے کہا کہ میرے شوہر کا چھونا ایسا ہے جیسے خرگوش کا چھونا یعنی (نازک بدن ہے) خوشبو ایسی جیسی کہ زرنب (ایک قسم کی گھاس) کی خوشبو۔ نویں بولی میرا شوہر اونچی عمارت والا (شریف) لمبے پرتلے والا بہت سخی ہے، اس کا گھر مجلس کے قریب ہے (ذی رائے شخص ہے)۔ دسویں نے کہا کہ میرے شوہر کا نام مالک (جائداد والا) ہے اور بھلا مالک کی کیا تعریف کروں (جو مدائح ذہن میں آ سکیں ان سے بالاتر ہے) اس کے گھر پر بہت سارے اونٹ (واسطے مہاناں) ہوتے ہیں اور چراگاہ میں (چرنے کو) کم جاتے ہیں اور جب باجے کی آواز سنتے ہیں تو یقین کر لیتے ہیں کہ اب وہ (مہمانوں کی خاطر) ذبح ہونے والے ہیں۔ گیارہویں نے کہا کہ میرا شوہر ابوزرع ہے اور اس کا کیا کہنا کہ میرے کانوں کو زیور سے بوجھل کر دیا اور میرے بازوؤں کو چربی سے پر کر دیا اور مجھے اس قدر خوش رکھا کہ اس کی داد دینے لگی، خوب کھلا کر موٹا کیا میں بھی اپنے تئیں بڑی خوب موٹی سمجھنے لگی۔ میری طرف میرا خاندان اس نے ایسا پایا جو بمشکل چند بکریوں والا تھا (میں غریب تھی) پھر ایسے خوشحال خاندان میں لایا کہ جو گھوڑوں کی آواز والے اور کجاوہ کی آواز والے (یعنی ان کے یہاں گھوڑے اونٹ سب) تھے دائیں چلانے والے بیل اور اناج پھنکنے والے آدمی (سبھی ان کے یہاں) تھے اس کے یہاں میں بولتی تو میری عیب چینی کوئی نہ کرتا اور سوتی تو صبح کر دیتی اور پانی پیتی تو نہایت اطمینان سے پیتی۔ ابوزرع کی ماں یعنی میری ساس، تو وہ بھی بہت لائق عورت تھی اس کی جامہ دان سب بھرپور رہتی اور اس کا گھر کشادہ۔ ابوزرع کا بیٹا، وہ بھی کیسا اچھا نازک بدن، دبلا پتلا، ننگی تلوار جتنی جگہ میں وہ سو سکتا، خوراک اس قدر کم کر چار مہینے کی بکری کا ایک ہاتھ اس کا پیٹ بھر دے۔ ابوزرع کی بیٹی! تو وہ بھی سبحان اللہ! اپنے والدین کی فرمانبردار (موٹی) فربہ ایسی کہ بھراؤ اپنی چادر کا۔ (صورت و سیرت ایسی کہ) اپنی سوکن کے لیے (ہر وقت) باعث غیظ و غضب۔ ابوزرع کی باندی تو وہ بھی قابل تعریف، ہماری باتوں کو مشہور نہیں کرتی، گھر کا بھید ہمیشہ پوشیدہ رکھتی ہے، کھانا تک نہیں چراتی، گھر میں کوڑا کچرا نہیں چھوڑتی، ہمیشہ چھاڑ پھونک کر صاف ستھرا رکھتی ہے۔ ایک دن ایسا ہوا کہ ابوزرع باہر نکلا ایسے وقت جب کہ دودھ کا برتن بلوایا جا رہا تھا باہر نکل کر کیا دیکھتا ہے کہ ایک عورت ہے جس کے ساتھ چیتے کے سے دو بچے ہیں جو اس کے زیر بغل دو اناروں سے کھیل رہے ہیں، اسے دیکھ کر اس نے مجھے طلاق دے دی اور اس سے نکاح کر لیا۔ اس کے بعد پھر میں نے ایک شریف شخص سے نکاح کیا جو تیز گھوڑے پر سوار ہوتا تھا اور ہاتھ میں خطی نیزہ رکھتا تھا۔ اس نے بھی بہت سی نعمتیں دیں اور ہر قسم کے مویشیوں میں سے ایک ایک جوڑا ہر مویشی کا دیا اور کہا کہ اے ام زرع خود کھا اور اپنے عزیز و اقارب کو بھی کھلا (یعنی احسان کرنے کی اجازت دی) ام زرع کہتی ہے کہ اگر میں یہ سب جو کچھ اس نے مجھے دیا اکٹھا بھی کر دوں تو ابوزرع کے ایک چھوٹے سے برتن کو بھی پہنچ سکتا۔ ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا فرماتی ہیں کہ یہ (تمام قصہ سن کر) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”میں بھی تیرے لیے ایسا ہوں جیسے ابوزرع ام زرع کے لیے تھا۔“(فائدہ: ایک روایت میں ہے کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا:”ابوذرع نے ام زرع کو طلاق دے دی تھی لیکن میں ایسا نہیں کروں گا۔“اس پر حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے جواب دیا کہ میرے ماں باپ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمپر قربان ہوں۔ آپ تو ابوزرع سے بھی بڑھ کر مجھ سے حسن سلوک اور محبت و پیار سے پیش آتے ہیں۔ (فتح الباری: 276/9))[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1859]
