English Translation
Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), some Muslims joined the polytheists so as to increase their numbers, and then (in battle) an arrow would come and one of them would be killed, or one would be slain by a sword-stroke. At that time this verse was revealed: "Verily, as for those who wrong themselves, when the angels take their souls, they ask, 'In what condition were you?' ..."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہرسول اکرمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے عہد میں چند مسلمان مشرکوں کے ساتھ ہو گئے تاکہ ان کی جماعت بڑھ جائے اور پھر (لڑائی کے موقع پر) ایک تیر آتا تو ان میں سے کوئی مارا جاتا یا تلوار کی ضرب سے کوئی قتل کیا جاتا تو اس وقت یہ آیت نازل ہوئی:”جو لوگ اپنی جانوں پر ظلم کرنے والے ہیں، جب فرشتے ان کی روح قبض کرتے ہیں تو پوچھتے ہیں کہ تم کس حال میں تھے ....۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1734]
