Isma'il bin Abi Uwais narrated to me, he said Ibn Wahb narrated to me, from Yunus bin Yazid al-Ayli, from Ibn Shihab, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrated to me that Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: Uyaynah bin Hisn bin Hudhayfah bin Badr came to Madinah and stayed with his nephew al-Hurr bin Qays bin Hisn. Al-Hurr bin Qays was among those whom Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) kept close to himself. The scholars of the Qur'an were the companions of Hadrat Umar's (may Allah be well pleased with him) gatherings and his consultations, whether they were elderly or young. Uyaynah said to his nephew: "O nephew! Do you have any standing with this commander? Seek permission for me to see him." He said: "I shall seek permission for you." Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: So he sought permission for Uyaynah, and when he entered, he said: "O son of al-Khattab! By Allah, you neither give us sufficiently nor judge between us with justice." Upon this, Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) became angry and intended to punish him. Al-Hurr said: "O Commander of the Faithful! Allah the Exalted said to His Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): 'Hold to forgiveness, command what is right, and turn away from the ignorant' (al-A'raf 7:199), and this man is among the ignorant." By Allah, when al-Hurr recited this verse, Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) did not proceed further, for he was one who would immediately halt at the commandment of the Book of Allah.

مجھ سے اسماعیل بن ابی اویس نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا مجھ سے عبداللہ بن وہب نے بیان کیا، ان سے یونس بن یزید ایلی نے، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، مجھ سے عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ نے بیان کیا کہ حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: عیینہ بن حصن بن حضرت حذیفہ بن بدر مدینہ آئے اور اپنے بھتیجے حر بن قیس بن حصن کے یہاں اترے۔ حر بن قیس ان لوگوں میں سے تھے جنہیں حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اپنے قریب رکھتے تھے۔ قرآن مجید کے علماء حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے شریک مجلس و مشورہ ہوتے تھے خواہ وہ بوڑھے ہوں یا جوان۔ عیینہ نے اپنے بھتیجے سے کہا: اے بھتیجے! اس امیر کے نزدیک تمہارا کوئی رسوخ ہے تو میرے لیے ان سے ملاقات کی اجازت لے لو۔ انہوں نے کہا: میں آپ کے لیے اجازت لوں گا۔ حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: پھر انہوں نے عیینہ کے لیے اجازت لی، جب وہ اندر داخل ہوئے تو کہا: اے ابن خطاب! اللہ کی قسم نہ تم ہمیں بہت زیادہ دیتے ہو اور نہ ہمارے درمیان انصاف سے فیصلہ کرتے ہو۔ اس پر حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ غضبناک ہوئے اور انہیں سزا دینے کا ارادہ کیا۔ حر نے عرض کیا: یا امیر المؤمنین! اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنے نبی صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے ارشاد فرمایا ہے: «خُذِ الْعَفْوَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْعُرْفِ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْجَاهِلِينَ» (درگزر کا طریقہ اختیار کرو اور بھلائی کا حکم دو اور جاہلوں سے اعراض کرو) اور یہ شخص جاہلوں میں سے ہے۔ اللہ کی قسم! جب حر نے یہ آیت تلاوت فرمائی تو حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے آگے قدم نہیں بڑھایا، اور حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کتاب اللہ پر فوراً رک جانے والے تھے۔
