Narrated by Hadrat ' Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with them both) that the Companions of the Suffah were destitute people. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Whoever has food for two should take a third person (from the Suffah Companions), and whoever has food for four should take a fifth or sixth.' So Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) brought three men, and the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) took ten. Hadrat 'Abdur Rahman (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: In our house there were myself, my father, and my mother — (the narrator Abu Hadrat 'Uthman was uncertain whether Hadrat 'Abdur Rahman also said:) my wife and a servant shared between our house and the house of Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him). Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) had his supper with the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and stayed until the 'Isha prayer was offered. Then he returned (to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)'s chamber) and remained until the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had his meal. After a portion of the night had passed, he came home. His honourable wife (Umm Ruman) said: 'What kept you from your guests?' He said: 'Have you not served them yet?' She said: 'They refused to eat until you came. The food was offered to them but they declined.' Hadrat 'Abdur Rahman (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: I hid myself (fearing my father's anger). Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) called out: 'O Ghunthar!' and rebuked and scolded me, then said (to the guests): 'Eat! May it not agree with you!' And he swore: 'By Allah, I shall never eat this food!' Hadrat 'Abdur Rahman (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: By Allah, every morsel we took was replaced by even more from beneath it, until everyone was satisfied and the food was more than before. Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) looked at it and found it the same as before, or even more. He said to his wife: 'O sister of Banu Firas! What is this?' She said: 'By the coolness of my eyes! It is now three times more than it was before.' Then Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) ate from it and said: 'My oath (not to eat) was from the devil' — meaning his earlier vow. Then he ate a morsel from it and took the rest to the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and it remained with the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) until morning. Meanwhile, we had a treaty with a people whose term had expired, so the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) assigned us into twelve groups, each led by a man with a number of people under him — Allah alone knows the exact number — and all of them ate from that food. ہم سے ابوالنعمان محمد بن فضل نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے معتمر بن سلیمان نے بیان کیا، ان سے ان کے والد سلیمان بن طرخان نے، کہا ہم سے ابوعثمان نہدی نے حضرت عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی بکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت کیا کہ اصحابِ صفہ نادار اور مسکین لوگ تھے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "جس کے گھر میں دو آدمیوں کا کھانا ہو وہ (اصحابِ صفہ میں سے) تیسرے کو اپنے ساتھ لے جائے، اور جس کے ہاں چار آدمیوں کا کھانا ہو وہ پانچویں یا چھٹے کو ساتھ لے جائے۔" چنانچہ حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ تین آدمیوں کو اپنے ساتھ لائے اور نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم دس آدمیوں کو اپنے ساتھ لے گئے۔ عبدالرحمٰن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: گھر میں میں تھا، میرے والد تھے اور میری والدہ تھیں — (راوی ابوعثمان کو شک ہے کہ عبدالرحمٰن نے یہ بھی فرمایا یا نہیں:) اور میری بیوی اور ایک خادم جو ہمارے اور حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے گھر میں مشترک تھا۔ حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے ہاں رات کا کھانا تناول فرمایا اور وہیں ٹھہرے رہے یہاں تک کہ نمازِ عشاء ادا ہوئی۔ پھر (مسجد سے) نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے حجرۂ مبارک میں واپس آئے اور ٹھہرے رہے یہاں تک کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے بھی کھانا تناول فرما لیا۔ رات کا ایک حصہ گزرنے کے بعد جب اللہ تعالیٰ نے چاہا تو آپ گھر تشریف لائے۔ ان کی زوجۂ مکرمہ (اُمّ رومان) نے عرض کیا: آپ نے اپنے مہمانوں کی خبر نہ لی — یا فرمایا — مہمان کی خبر نہ لی! آپ نے فرمایا: کیا تم نے ابھی تک انہیں کھانا نہیں کھلایا؟ انہوں نے کہا: میں نے کھلانا چاہا مگر آپ کے آنے تک انہوں نے انکار کیا، ان کے سامنے کھانا رکھا گیا تو نہ مانے۔ حضرت عبدالرحمٰن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: (والد کا غصہ دیکھ کر) میں ڈر کر چھپ گیا۔ حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے آواز دی: اے غنثر! پھر مجھے ڈانٹا اور برا بھلا کہا اور فرمایا: کھاؤ! تمہیں مبارک نہ ہو! اور فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! میں یہ کھانا ہرگز نہیں کھاؤں گا۔ (آخر مہمانوں نے کھانا شروع کیا) عبدالرحمٰن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! ہم جتنا لقمہ اٹھاتے اتنا ہی نیچے سے اور بڑھ جاتا۔ یہاں تک کہ سب سیر ہو گئے اور کھانا پہلے سے بھی زیادہ ہو گیا۔ حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے دیکھا تو کھانا جوں کا توں تھا بلکہ اور زیادہ تھا۔ اپنی زوجۂ مکرمہ سے فرمایا: اے بنوفراس کی بہن! یہ کیا معاملہ ہے؟ انہوں نے عرض کیا: میری آنکھوں کی ٹھنڈک کی قسم! کھانا تو اب پہلے سے تین گنا زیادہ ہے۔ پھر حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے بھی کھانا تناول فرمایا اور فرمایا: میرا (نہ کھانے کی) قسم کھانا شیطانی وسوسے کی وجہ سے تھا۔ پھر ایک لقمہ کھایا اور باقی کھانا نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں لے گئے جو صبح تک آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس رہا۔ عبدالرحمٰن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: ہمارا اور ایک قوم کا معاہدہ تھا جس کی مدت ختم ہو چکی تھی (اور اس قبیلے کا وفد مدینہ آیا ہوا تھا)۔ ہم نے بارہ آدمیوں کو الگ الگ ذمہ دار مقرر کیا اور ہر ایک کے ساتھ کتنے آدمی تھے اللہ ہی بہتر جانتا ہے، مگر سب نے اس کھانے میں سے کھایا۔ یا عبدالرحمٰن رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کچھ ایسا ہی فرمایا۔
