Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ خُصَيْفَةَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، سَمِعَ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ أَبِي زُهَيْرٍ الشَّنَئِيَّ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " مَنِ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا لاَ يُغْنِي عَنْهُ زَرْعًا وَلاَ ضَرْعًا، نَقَصَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطٌ ". فَقَالَ السَّائِبُ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ إِيْ وَرَبِّ هَذِهِ الْقِبْلَةِ.
English Translation
It is narrated from Hadrat Sufyan bin Abi Zuhayr al-Shana'i (may Allah be well pleased with him) that he heard the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declare: Whoever keeps a dog that is of no use for farming or guarding livestock — one Qirat (of reward) from his good deeds is diminished every day. Al-Sa'ib (bin Yazid) asked him: Did you yourself hear this from the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)? He replied: Yes indeed! By the Lord of this Qibla (I heard it from the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)!
Urdu Translation
حضرت سفیان بن ابی زہیر شَّنَئِی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو ارشاد فرماتے سنا: جس نے کوئی کتا پالا جو نہ کھیتی کے کام آتا ہو اور نہ جانوروں کی حفاظت کے — تو اس کے اعمال سے ہر روز ایک قیراط (ثواب) کم ہو جاتا ہے۔ سائب (بن یزید) نے (سفیان سے) دریافت کیا: کیا تم نے یہ خود رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے سنا ہے؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: ہاں! اس قبلے کے رب کی قسم (میں نے یہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے سنا ہے)!
