It is narrated from Hadrat Malik bin Sa'sa'a (may Allah be well pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: I was near the House (Ka'bah) in a state between sleep and wakefulness — he mentioned (lying) between two men — when a golden tray filled with wisdom and faith was brought to me. My chest was split open from the throat to the lower abdomen, then washed with Zamzam water and filled with wisdom and faith. A white riding beast was brought — smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey — that is, al-Buraq. I set out with Jibril (upon him be peace). When we reached the first heaven, the question was asked: Who is it? The reply: Jibril. Who is with you? Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Has he been summoned? Yes. It was said: Welcome! What an excellent arrival! There I met Hadrat Adam (upon him be peace) and greeted him. He said: Welcome, O son and the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Then on the second heaven, the same exchange occurred. There I met Hadrat 'Isa (Jesus) and Hadrat Yahya (John) (upon them be peace), who said: Welcome, O brother and the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! On the third heaven, I met Hadrat Yusuf (Joseph) (upon him be peace); on the fourth, Hadrat Idris (upon him be peace); on the fifth, Hadrat Harun (Aaron) (upon him be peace) — each welcomed me. On the sixth heaven, I met Hadrat Musa (Moses) (upon him be peace), who said: Welcome, O brother and the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! When I passed beyond him, he wept. He was asked why he wept, and he said: O Lord! This young man who was sent after me — more of his community shall enter Paradise than of mine. On the seventh heaven, I met Hadrat Ibrahim (Abraham) (upon him be peace), who said: Welcome, O son and the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Then I was shown al-Bait al-Ma'mur (the Frequented House) — Jibril (upon him be peace) said: Seventy thousand angels pray in it daily, and once they leave, they never return. I was shown Sidrat al-Muntaha (the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary) — its fruits were like the clay jars of Hajar and its leaves like the ears of elephants. Four rivers flowed from its root: two hidden ones in Paradise and two visible ones — the Nile and the Euphrates. Then fifty prayers were enjoined upon me. On my return, Hadrat Musa (upon him be peace) asked: What happened? I said: Fifty prayers were enjoined. He said: I know people better than you do; I had the most difficult experience with the Children of Israel. Your community cannot bear this — go back and ask for a reduction. I returned and Allah reduced them to forty, then thirty, then twenty, then ten. Hadrat Musa (upon him be peace) repeated his advice, and Allah reduced them to five. He said the same again, but I said: I have submitted to Allah's decree. Then a call came: I have decreed My obligation and have lightened the burden on My servants, and I shall reward a single good deed tenfold.

حضرت مالک بن صعصعہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: میں بیت اللہ کے قریب نیند اور بیداری کی درمیانی حالت میں تھا — آپ نے دو آدمیوں کے بیچ لیٹے ہوئے ایک تیسرے شخص کا ذکر فرمایا — میرے پاس سونے کا طشت لایا گیا جو حکمت اور ایمان سے بھرا ہوا تھا۔ میرا سینہ حلق سے نچلے پیٹ تک چاک کیا گیا، پھر میرا پیٹ آبِ زمزم سے دھویا گیا اور حکمت و ایمان سے بھر دیا گیا۔ پھر ایک سفید سواری لائی گئی — خچر سے چھوٹی اور گدھے سے بڑی — یعنی براق۔ میں جبرائیل علیہ السلام کے ساتھ روانہ ہوا۔ جب پہلے آسمان پر پہنچے تو پوچھا گیا: کون؟ جواب ملا: جبرائیل۔ پوچھا: آپ کے ساتھ کون ہیں؟ جواب: محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم۔ پوچھا: کیا انہیں بلایا گیا ہے؟ جواب: ہاں۔ کہا گیا: خوش آمدید، کیا ہی اچھے آنے والے ہیں! وہاں میں حضرت آدم علیہ السلام سے ملا اور سلام عرض کیا۔ انہوں نے فرمایا: خوش آمدید اے بیٹے اور نبی! پھر دوسرے آسمان پر وہی سوال و جواب ہوئے۔ وہاں حضرت عیسیٰ اور حضرت یحییٰ علیہما السلام سے ملاقات ہوئی، انہوں نے فرمایا: خوش آمدید اے بھائی اور نبی! تیسرے آسمان پر حضرت یوسف علیہ السلام سے ملے، چوتھے پر حضرت ادریس علیہ السلام سے، پانچویں پر حضرت ہارون علیہ السلام سے — سب نے خوش آمدید فرمایا۔ چھٹے آسمان پر حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام سے ملا، انہوں نے فرمایا: خوش آمدید اے بھائی اور نبی! جب میں آگے بڑھا تو وہ رونے لگے۔ پوچھا گیا: آپ کیوں رو رہے ہیں؟ فرمایا: اے رب! یہ نوجوان جو میرے بعد مبعوث ہوا، اس کی امت میں سے جنت میں داخل ہونے والے میری امت سے زیادہ ہوں گے۔ ساتویں آسمان پر حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام سے ملا، انہوں نے فرمایا: خوش آمدید اے بیٹے اور نبی! پھر بیت المعمور دکھایا گیا — جبرائیل علیہ السلام نے بتایا: اس میں روزانہ ستر ہزار فرشتے نماز پڑھتے ہیں اور نکلنے کے بعد کبھی واپس نہیں آتے۔ سدرۃ المنتہیٰ دکھائی گئی جس کے پھل ہجر کے مٹکوں جیسے اور پتے ہاتھیوں کے کانوں جیسے تھے، اس کی جڑ سے چار نہریں نکلتی تھیں: دو باطنی جنت میں، اور دو ظاہری — نیل اور فرات۔ پھر مجھ پر پچاس نمازیں فرض کی گئیں۔ واپسی میں حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام سے ملا، انہوں نے دریافت فرمایا: کیا ہوا؟ میں نے بتایا: پچاس نمازیں فرض ہوئیں۔ فرمایا: میں لوگوں کو تم سے زیادہ جانتا ہوں، بنی اسرائیل کا مجھے بڑا تجربہ ہے، تمہاری امت اتنی نمازوں کی طاقت نہیں رکھتی، واپس جاؤ اور تخفیف کرواؤ۔ میں واپس گیا اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے چالیس فرمائیں، پھر تیس، پھر بیس، پھر دس۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے وہی فرمایا تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے پانچ فرما دیں۔ حضرت موسیٰ علیہ السلام نے پھر فرمایا، میں نے عرض کیا: میں اللہ کے سپرد کر چکا۔ پھر آواز آئی: میں نے اپنا فریضہ جاری کر دیا اور اپنے بندوں پر تخفیف فرما دی، اور میں ایک نیکی کا بدلہ دس گنا دیتا ہوں۔
