It is narrated from Hadrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: Three men were walking when it began to rain. They took shelter in a cave in a mountain. A large rock rolled down and blocked the mouth of the cave. They said to one another: Supplicate to Allah by invoking the most virtuous deed you have ever performed. The first one submitted: O Allah! My parents were very old. I would go out to graze my livestock, then return and milk them, and would first give the milk to my parents before my children and family. One night I was delayed, and when I returned, they had already fallen asleep. I did not wish to wake them, while my children were crying at my feet from hunger. I stood at their bedside holding the cup of milk until dawn broke. O Allah! If You know that I did this solely seeking Your pleasure, then open for us enough passage that we may see the sky. So the rock moved a little. The second one submitted: O Allah! You know that I was deeply in love with a cousin of mine. She told me I could not have my desire fulfilled unless I gave her a hundred Dinars. I labored until I gathered them. When I sat near her, she said: Fear Allah, and do not break the seal unlawfully. I stood up and left her. If You know that I did this seeking Your pleasure, then open for us some more passage. So the rock moved two-thirds of the way. The third one submitted: O Allah! You know that I hired a worker for one Faraq (three Sa's) of millet. When I offered him his wages, he refused to accept them. I sowed that millet, and from its yield I bought cows and a herdsman. Then he came and said: O servant of Allah, give me my dues. I said: Go to those cows and the herdsman, for they are all yours. He said: Are you mocking me? I said: No, they truly are all yours. O Allah! If You know that I did this seeking Your pleasure, then remove the rest (of the rock). So the rock was completely removed (and all three came out).
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تین شخص پیدل کہیں جا رہے تھے کہ بارش ہونے لگی۔ انہوں نے ایک پہاڑ کے غار میں پناہ لی۔ اچانک ایک بڑی چٹان لڑھک کر غار کا منہ بند ہو گیا۔ انہوں نے ایک دوسرے سے کہا: اللہ تعالیٰ سے اپنے بہترین عمل کا واسطہ دے کر دعا کرو۔ ایک نے عرض کیا: اے اللہ! میرے والدین بہت بوڑھے تھے۔ میں باہر جا کر مویشی چراتا، پھر واپس آ کر دودھ نکالتا اور پہلے اپنے والدین کو پلاتا، اس کے بعد بچوں اور گھر والوں کو دیتا۔ ایک رات مجھے دیر ہو گئی، واپس آیا تو والدین سو چکے تھے۔ مجھے انہیں جگانا پسند نہ آیا، اور بچے بھوکے میرے قدموں میں روتے رہے۔ میں دودھ کا پیالہ لیے ان کے سرہانے کھڑا رہا یہاں تک کہ صبح ہو گئی۔ اے اللہ! اگر تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ صرف تیری رضا کے لیے کیا تھا تو ہمارے لیے اتنا راستہ کھول دے کہ ہم آسمان دیکھ سکیں۔ چنانچہ چٹان کچھ ہٹ گئی۔ دوسرے نے عرض کیا: اے اللہ! تو جانتا ہے کہ مجھے اپنے چچا کی ایک بیٹی سے انتہائی محبت تھی۔ اس نے کہا کہ جب تک سو دینار نہ دو، تمہاری خواہش پوری نہیں ہوگی۔ میں نے محنت سے سو دینار جمع کیے۔ جب میں اس کے قریب بیٹھا تو اس نے کہا: اللہ سے ڈرو اور ناجائز طریقے سے مہر نہ توڑو۔ میں اٹھ کر چلا آیا۔ اگر تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ تیری رضا کے لیے کیا تھا تو ہمارے لیے کچھ اور راستہ کھول دے۔ چنانچہ چٹان دو تہائی ہٹ گئی۔ تیسرے نے عرض کیا: اے اللہ! تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے ایک مزدور کو ایک فرق (تین صاع) جوار پر رکھا تھا۔ جب اس کی مزدوری دی تو اس نے لینے سے انکار کر دیا۔ میں نے وہ جوار بو دی، اس کی فصل سے گائے اور چرواہا خریدا۔ پھر وہ آیا اور کہا: اے اللہ کے بندے! مجھے میرا حق دے دو۔ میں نے کہا: ان گایوں اور اس چرواہے کو لے جاؤ، یہ سب تمہارا ہے۔ اس نے کہا: کیا مذاق کر رہے ہو؟ میں نے کہا: نہیں، واقعی یہ سب تمہارا ہے۔ اے اللہ! اگر تو جانتا ہے کہ میں نے یہ تیری رضا کے لیے کیا تھا تو ہمارے لیے (باقی) راستہ کھول دے۔ چنانچہ چٹان پوری ہٹ گئی (اور وہ تینوں باہر نکل آئے)۔
