Hadrat Samura bin Jundab (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: Whenever the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) finished the (morning) prayer, he would turn his blessed face towards us and ask, 'Who among you saw a dream last night?' If anyone had seen a dream, he would narrate it, and the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would say 'Ma sha Allah' (interpreting as Allah willed). One day he asked us, 'Did any of you see a dream?' We submitted, 'No.' He stated, 'But I saw (a dream) last night: two men came to me, took me by the hand, and brought me to the Sacred Land. There I saw a man sitting and another standing with an iron hook in his hand — he would insert the hook into the sitting man's cheek and tear it to the back of his head, then do the same to the other cheek. Meanwhile the first cheek would heal, and he would repeat it. I asked: What is this? They said: Move on. So we moved on until we came upon a man lying on his back, and another standing over his head with a large stone, crushing his head with it. The stone would roll away; he would go to retrieve it, and before he returned the head would be restored, and he would crush it again. I asked: Who is this? They said: Move on. We came to a pit like an oven — narrow at the top, wide at the bottom — with fire blazing beneath it. When the flames rose, the people inside would rise nearly to the point of escaping, but when the fire subsided they would fall back down. In it were naked men and women. I asked: What is this? They said: Move on. We came upon a river of blood; in the middle stood a man, and on the bank stood another man with stones before him. Whenever the man in the river tried to come out, the other would hurl a stone at his mouth, forcing him back. I asked: What is this? They said: Move on. We reached a lush green garden with a great tree. At its base sat an elder with children around him. Near the tree, a man was kindling a fire. They took me up into the tree and into a house more beautiful than any I had ever seen — in it were elderly men, young men, women, and children. Then they took me out and up the tree into another house, even more beautiful and superior, with elderly and young men. I said: You have taken me on a journey all night — now tell me what I have seen. They said: Yes. The one whose cheek was being torn was a liar who would tell lies that spread to the horizons — this punishment continues until the Day of Resurrection. The one whose head was being crushed was a man whom Allah gave the Quran, but he slept through the night (without reciting it) and did not act upon it by day — this continues until the Day of Resurrection. Those in the pit were the adulterers. The one in the river was the consumer of usury (interest). The elder at the base of the tree was Hadrat Ibrahim (upon him be peace), and the children around him were the young offspring of people. The one kindling the fire was Malik, the keeper of Hellfire. The first house was the abode of the common believers, and this (second) house is the abode of the martyrs. I am Jibril and this is Mika'il. Now raise your head. I raised my head and saw something like a cloud above me. They said: That is your abode. I said: Let me enter my abode. They said: You still have remaining life that you have not completed. When you complete it, you will enter your abode.'

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے جریر بن حازم نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ابورجاء عمران بن تمیم نے بیان کیا اور ان سے حضرت سمرہ بن جندب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے روایت کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جب نماز (فجر) سے فارغ ہوتے تو ہماری طرف رخ مبارک فرماتے اور دریافت فرماتے: آج رات تم میں سے کسی نے خواب دیکھا ہے؟ اگر کسی نے خواب دیکھا ہوتا تو وہ بیان کرتا اور آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ماشاء اللہ ارشاد فرماتے (یعنی جو تعبیر اللہ تعالیٰ کو منظور ہوتی بیان فرماتے)۔ ایک دن آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے معمول کے مطابق دریافت فرمایا: کیا تم میں سے کسی نے کوئی خواب دیکھا ہے؟ ہم نے عرض کیا: نہیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: لیکن میں نے آج رات دیکھا کہ دو شخص میرے پاس آئے، انہوں نے میرا ہاتھ تھاما اور مجھے ارض مقدس کی طرف لے گئے۔ وہاں دیکھا کہ ایک شخص بیٹھا ہے اور ایک کھڑا ہے جس کے ہاتھ میں لوہے کا آنکس ہے — (بعض ساتھیوں نے موسیٰ سے یہ روایت کیا کہ) — وہ اس آنکس کو بیٹھے ہوئے شخص کے جبڑے میں ڈال کر سر کے پچھلے حصے تک چیر ڈالتا، پھر دوسرے جبڑے کے ساتھ بھی ایسا ہی کرتا۔ اس دوران پہلا جبڑا درست ہو جاتا تو وہ پھر اسے اسی طرح چیرتا۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کیا ہے؟ دونوں نے کہا: آگے چلیں۔ چنانچہ ہم آگے بڑھے تو ایک شخص چت لیٹا ہوا تھا اور ایک شخص اس کے سرہانے پتھر لیے کھڑا تھا جس سے وہ اس کا سر کچل ڈالتا۔ پتھر لگ کر دور لڑھک جاتا، وہ اسے اٹھانے جاتا، ابھی واپس نہ آ پاتا کہ سر اپنی اصلی حالت پر آ جاتا، پھر وہ اسے مارتا۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کون ہے؟ دونوں نے کہا: آگے چلیں۔ ہم ایک تنور جیسے گڑھے کے پاس آئے، اوپر سے تنگ اور نیچے سے فراخ، اس کے نیچے آگ بھڑک رہی تھی۔ جب آگ بھڑکتی تو اس میں جلنے والے اوپر اٹھتے، قریب ہوتا کہ باہر نکل جائیں، لیکن جب آگ دبتی تو وہ واپس نیچے چلے جاتے۔ اس میں ننگے مرد اور عورتیں تھیں۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کیا ہے؟ دونوں نے کہا: آگے چلیں۔ ہم آگے بڑھے تو خون کی ایک نہر دکھائی دی، اس کے بیچ میں ایک شخص کھڑا تھا اور نہر کے کنارے ایک شخص تھا جس کے سامنے پتھر رکھے تھے۔ نہر والا جب باہر نکلنا چاہتا تو کنارے والا اس کے منہ پر پتھر مارتا اور وہ پھر اپنی جگہ لوٹ جاتا۔ میں نے پوچھا: یہ کیا ہے؟ دونوں نے کہا: آگے چلیں۔ ہم ایک سرسبز باغ میں پہنچے جس میں ایک بہت بڑا درخت تھا۔ اس کی جڑ میں ایک بزرگ بیٹھے تھے اور ان کے اردگرد بچے تھے۔ درخت کے قریب ایک شخص اپنے سامنے آگ سلگا رہا تھا۔ وہ دونوں ساتھی مجھے درخت پر لے گئے اور ایک ایسے گھر میں داخل کیا جس سے حسین تر میں نے کبھی نہ دیکھا تھا۔ اس میں بوڑھے، جوان، عورتیں اور بچے تھے۔ پھر مجھے نکال کر درخت پر اور اوپر لے گئے اور ایک اور حسین تر و افضل گھر میں داخل کیا جس میں بوڑھے اور جوان تھے۔ میں نے کہا: تم نے آج رات خوب سیر کرائی، اب مجھے بتاؤ جو کچھ میں نے دیکھا اس کی حقیقت کیا ہے؟ دونوں نے فرمایا: ہاں۔ جس کا جبڑا چیرا جا رہا تھا وہ جھوٹا آدمی تھا جو جھوٹ بولتا اور اس سے جھوٹ دور دور تک پھیل جاتا — قیامت تک اسے یہی عذاب ہوگا۔ جس کا سر کچلا جا رہا تھا وہ ایسا شخص تھا جسے اللہ تعالیٰ نے قرآن مجید عطا فرمایا لیکن وہ رات کو سوتا رہتا (تلاوت نہ کرتا) اور دن میں اس پر عمل نہ کرتا — قیامت تک اسے یہی عذاب ہوگا۔ تنور میں زناکار تھے۔ نہر میں سود خور تھا۔ درخت کی جڑ میں بیٹھے ہوئے بزرگ حضرت ابراہیم علیہ السلام تھے اور ان کے اردگرد کے بچے لوگوں کی نابالغ اولاد تھی۔ آگ سلگانے والا مالک جہنم کا داروغہ تھا۔ پہلا گھر عام مؤمنین کا تھا اور یہ (دوسرا) گھر شہداء کا ہے۔ اور میں جبرائیل ہوں اور یہ میکائیل ہیں۔ اب اپنا سر اوپر اٹھاؤ۔ میں نے سر اٹھایا تو اوپر بادل جیسی ایک چیز دکھائی دی۔ دونوں نے فرمایا: یہ آپ کا مکان ہے۔ میں نے عرض کیا: مجھے اپنے مکان میں جانے دو۔ دونوں نے فرمایا: ابھی آپ کی عمر باقی ہے جو ابھی پوری نہیں ہوئی۔ جب پوری ہو جائے گی تو آپ اپنے مکان میں تشریف لے جائیں گے۔
