حدثنا السري بن عاصم حَدَّثَنا حفص بن غياث حَدَّثَنا الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يسأله عن شيء فدخل يطلب له فأصاب لقمة في بعض حجره فأخرجها ففتها أجزاء ثم وضع يده عليها ثم قال كل يا أعرابي فأكل الأعرابي وفضلت منه فضلة فجعل الأعرابي يرفع رأسه وينظر إليه ويقول إنك لرجل صالح فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أسلم فجعل يأبى الإسلام ويقول إنك لرجل صالحوهذا الكلام لاَ نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ إلاَّ حفص بن غياث
English Translation
Al-Sari ibn Asim narrated to us, Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Abu Salih, from Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him) who stated: A Bedouin came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) asking him for something. He went in to search for it and found a morsel in one of his apartments. He brought it out, broke it into pieces, then placed his hand upon it, then said: «Eat, O Bedouin.» The Bedouin ate and some surplus remained. The Bedouin kept raising his head, looking at him and saying: 'You are indeed a righteous man.' The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: «Accept Islam.» But he refused to accept Islam, saying: 'You are indeed a righteous man.' This statement — we do not know that anyone narrated it except Hafs ibn Ghiyath.
