حَدَّثنا مُحَمد قَال حَدَّثنا عَبد الله قَال حَدَّثنا اللَّيْث قال حدثني عُقَيل عَن ابن شِهاب أن سَعِيد بن الْمُسَيَّب أخبره أن أبا هُرَيرة أَخْبَرَهُ أَن رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قال بينا أنا نائم رأيتني على رأس قليب عليها دلو فنزعت ما شاء الله ثُمَّ أخذها ابن أبي قحافة فنزع منها ذَنُوبًا أَوْ ذَنُوبَيْنِ وَفِي نَزْعِهِ ضَعْفٌ وَاللَّهُ يغفر له ثُمَّ استحالت غربا فأخذها عُمَر فلم أر عبقريا من الناس ينزع نزع عُمَر حتى ضرب الناس بعطن اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قال بينا أنا نائم رأيتني على رأس قليب عليها دلو فنزعت ما شاء الله ثُمَّ أخذها ابن أبي قحافة فنزع منها ذَنُوبًا أَوْ ذَنُوبَيْنِ وَفِي نَزْعِهِ ضَعْفٌ وَاللَّهُ يغفر له ثُمَّ استحالت غربا فأخذها عُمَر فلم أر عبقريا من الناس ينزع نزع عُمَر حتى ضرب الناس بعطن
English Translation
Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Abdullah narrated to us, he said: al-Layth narrated to us, he said: Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab that Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib informed him that Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him) informed him that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: «While I was sleeping, I saw myself at the head of a well with a bucket on it. I drew water as Allah willed. Then Ibn Abi Quhafah (Abu Bakr) took it and drew one or two buckets, and there was weakness in his drawing — may Allah forgive him. Then it turned into a large bucket, and Umar took it. I have never seen a genius among the people draw water as powerfully as Umar, until the people had their fill and the camels knelt down.»
