حَدَّثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ الشهيد قَال حَدَّثنا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمان عَن أَبِيه عَن أَنَس عَن أَبِي هُرَيرة عَن النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قال إذا تقرب العبد إلى الله تبارك وتعالى شبرا تقرب الله إليه ذراعا وإذا تقرب منه ذراعا تقرب إليه باعاوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَن أَنَس عَن أبي هُرَيرة إلاَّ المعتمر عَن أَبِيه وقد رُوِيَ عَن أبي هُرَيرة من غير وجه وعَن غير أبي هُرَيرة أيضا اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قال إذا تقرب العبد إلى الله تبارك وتعالى شبرا تقرب الله إليه ذراعا وإذا تقرب منه ذراعا تقرب إليه باعاوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَن أَنَس عَن أبي هُرَيرة إلاَّ المعتمر عَن أَبِيه وقد رُوِيَ عَن أبي هُرَيرة من غير وجه وعَن غير أبي هُرَيرة أيضا
English Translation
Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ibn Habib ibn ash-Shahid narrated to us, he said: al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from his father, from Anas, from Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be well pleased with him), from the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) who stated: «When a servant draws near to Allah, Blessed and Exalted, by a hand-span, Allah draws near to him by an arm's length. And when he draws near by an arm's length, Allah draws near to him by a fathom.» This hadith — we do not know anyone who narrated it from Anas from Abu Hurayrah except al-Mu'tamir from his father. It has been narrated from Abu Hurayrah through other chains, and also from others besides Abu Hurayrah.
