English Translation
Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam narrated to us, Ziyad ibn Abdullah narrated to us, Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from Abu Nadrah, from Hadrat Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be well pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: «When a mu'min commits a sin, a black spot appears on his heart. If he repents and seeks forgiveness, his heart is polished. But if he increases in sin, the blackness increases until it covers his entire heart. That is the 'Ran' (covering) that Allah mentioned in His Book: 'Nay! Rather, what they used to earn has covered their hearts.' (Surah al-Mutaffifin, 83:14)»
