وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ نا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ نا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الْوِتْرُ لَيْسَ بِفَرِيضَةٍ وَلَكِنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَكِنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
English Translation
Hadrat Ali (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "The witr is not an obligation (faridah), but it is a sunnah that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) established."
