وَبِهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَن أَنَسٍ قَالَ لَمَّا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الرُّومِ قَالُوا إنهم لا يقرؤُون كِتَابًا إلاَّ مَخْتُومًا فَاتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم نَقْشُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ الله يَكْتُبَ إِلَى الرُّومِ قَالُوا إنهم لا يقرؤُون كِتَابًا إلاَّ مَخْتُومًا فَاتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَيَاضِهِ فِي يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم نَقْشُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ الله
English Translation
And with it, he said: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas who said: When the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) intended to write to the Romans, it was said to him: They do not read a letter unless it is sealed. So the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had a silver ring made. It is as if I can see its whiteness on the hand of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Its inscription was: 'Muhammad, Messenger of Allah.'
