حَدَّثنا مُحَمد بن المُثَني قَال حَدَّثنا أَبُو داود قَال حَدَّثنا زُهَيْرٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ سِمَاك عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرة رَضِي اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَجُلا قَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ بِمَشَاقِصَ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ النَّبِيّ عَلَيْهِوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ يُرْوَى عَن النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم إلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرة عَنْهُ وَإنَّما تَرَكَ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم الصَّلاةَ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَنَا وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ عُقُوبَةً لِئَلا يَعُودَ غَيْرُهُ فَيَصْنَعَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ بِنَفْسِهِ النَّبِيّ عَلَيْهِوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ يُرْوَى عَن النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم إلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرة عَنْهُ وَإنَّما تَرَكَ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم الصَّلاةَ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَنَا وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ عُقُوبَةً لِئَلا يَعُودَ غَيْرُهُ فَيَصْنَعَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ بِنَفْسِهِ
English Translation
Hadrat Jabir ibn Samurah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated that a man killed himself with broad-headed arrows, and the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) did not pray over him. This hadith is not known to be narrated from the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) except from this route, from the hadith of Jabir ibn Samurah. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) refrained from praying over him — and Allah knows best — as a punishment for those who might do likewise.
