حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَ نَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ نَا الْعَوَّامُ بْنُ جُوَيْرِيَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ تَمَامُ الْعَمَلِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الصَّدَقَةِ قَالَ الصَّدَقَةُ شَيْءٌ عَجَبٌ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَرَكْتُ أَفْضَلَ عَمَلٍ فِي نَفْسِي أَوْ خَيْرِهِ قَالَ مَا هُوَ قُلْتُ الصَّوْمُ قَالَ خَيْرٌ وَلَيْسَ هُنَاكَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ أَوْ أَقْدِرْ قَالَ بِفَضْلِ طَعَامِكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ دَعِ النَّاسَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةُ تَتَصَدَّقُ بِهَا عَلَى نَفْسِكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ فَأَمِطِ الْأَذَى قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ لَا تَدَعَ فِيكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ شَيْئًا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إِلَّا عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ تَمَامُ الْعَمَلِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ الصَّدَقَةِ قَالَ الصَّدَقَةُ شَيْءٌ عَجَبٌ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَرَكْتُ أَفْضَلَ عَمَلٍ فِي نَفْسِي أَوْ خَيْرِهِ قَالَ مَا هُوَ قُلْتُ الصَّوْمُ قَالَ خَيْرٌ وَلَيْسَ هُنَاكَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ وَذَكَرَ كَلِمَةً قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ أَوْ أَقْدِرْ قَالَ بِفَضْلِ طَعَامِكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ دَعِ النَّاسَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةُ تَتَصَدَّقُ بِهَا عَلَى نَفْسِكَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ فَأَمِطِ الْأَذَى قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ قَالَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ لَا تَدَعَ فِيكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ شَيْئًا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إِلَّا عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ
English Translation
Abu Kurayb narrated to us, he said: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, he said: al-'Awwam ibn Juwayriyah narrated to us, from al-Hasan, from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about prayer?" He said: "It is the perfection of one's deeds." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I ask you about charity." He said: "Charity is something wondrous." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have left the best deed in my mind - or the best of them." He said: "What is it?" I said: "Fasting." He said: "It is good, but it is not at that level." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, which charity is best?" And he mentioned a phrase. I said: "What if I cannot do that or am unable?" He said: "Give from your surplus food." I said: "What if I cannot?" He said: "Give half a date." I said: "What if I cannot?" He said: "Then a kind word." I said: "What if I cannot?" He said: "Spare people from your evil, for that is a charity you give to yourself." I said: "What if I cannot?" He said: "Then remove harm from the path." I said: "What if I cannot?" He said: "You want there to be no good left in you at all!" This hadith - we do not know it to be narrated with this wording except from Abu Dharr through this chain.
