حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ نَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ عَنِ الْمَعْرُورِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى لَوْ أَنَّ عَبْدًا مَلَأَ الْأَرْضَ خَطَايَا ثُمَّ لَمْ يُشْرِكْ بِي شَيْئًا غَفَرْتُ لَهُ مِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ خَطَايَا أَوْ قُرَابَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَةٌ وَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا لَمْ تُكْتَبْ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ سَيِّئَةً وَإِنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ ذِرَاعًا وَإِنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ بَاعًا وَإِنْ أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ خَالِدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنِ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِهِ خَطَايَا ثُمَّ لَمْ يُشْرِكْ بِي شَيْئًا غَفَرْتُ لَهُ مِلْءَ الْأَرْضِ خَطَايَا أَوْ قُرَابَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَةٌ وَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرُ حَسَنَاتٍ وَإِنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا لَمْ تُكْتَبْ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ سَيِّئَةً وَإِنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي شِبْرًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ ذِرَاعًا وَإِنْ تَقَرَّبَ مِنِّي ذِرَاعًا تَقَرَّبْتُ مِنْهُ بَاعًا وَإِنْ أَتَانِي يَمْشِي أَتَيْتُهُ هَرْوَلَةً وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ خَالِدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنِ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِهِ
English Translation
Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Wasil, from al-Ma'rur, who said: I heard Abu Dharr saying: Allah, Blessed and Exalted, [said]: If a servant were to fill the earth with sins and then not associate anything with Me, I would forgive him an earth-full of sins or nearly the earth-full. If he intends a good deed but does not do it, one good deed is recorded for him. If he does it, ten good deeds are recorded for him. If he intends a bad deed but does not do it, nothing is recorded. If he does it, one bad deed is recorded. If he draws near to Me by a hand-span, I draw near to him by a cubit. If he draws near to Me by a cubit, I draw near to him by a fathom. If he comes to Me walking, I come to him running. And Khalid ibn Yusuf narrated it to us from Abu 'Awanah from 'Asim from al-Ma'rur ibn Suwayd from Abu Dharr from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) similarly.
