حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَانِئٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْمِصِّيصِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ حَلْبَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ فَقَعَدْتُ فِي حَلْقَةٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَأْثِرُ عَنِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَحَابِّينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَوَاصِلِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَزَاوِرِينَ فِيَّ وَحَقَّتْ مَحَبَّتِي لِلْمُتَبَاذِلِينَ فِيَّ فَقُلْتُ مَنْ أَنْتَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ قَالَ أَنَا عُبَادَةُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ
English Translation
Ibrahim ibn Hani' narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Kathir al-Missisi informed us, he said: al-Awza'i informed us, from Yunus ibn Halbas, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani, who said: I entered the mosque and found a gathering in which were the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), among whom was a young man with kohl-lined eyes and white teeth. Whenever they differed on something, they referred to him. I asked about him and was told: He is Mu'adh ibn Jabal. This was then from the musnad of 'Ubadah.
