English Translation
Abdullah ibn Ahmad al-Marwazi narrated to us, he said: 'Umar ibn Hafs narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to me, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn al-Hakam, from 'Uthman ibn Abi al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned snakes and said: 'Whoever fears their harm is not from us.' This hadith has been narrated from more than one Companion from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: 'Whoever leaves them out of fear of their retaliation is not from us.' But this hadith says 'whoever fears their harm is not from us,' so we recorded it due to the difference in wording and because it is not narrated from 'Uthman except through this route.
