وَأَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَرَبِيٍّ قَالَ نا رَوْحٌ قَالَ نا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاقِفًا بِعَرَفَةَ مَادًّا يَدَيْهِ كَالْمُسْتَطْعِمِ أَوْ كَلِمَةً نَحْوَهَا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ لَهُ طَرِيقًا عَنِ الْفَضْلِ إِلَّا هَذَا الطَّرِيقُ
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: «The example of the believer who recites the Qur'an is like the citron — its fragrance is sweet and its taste is sweet. The example of the believer who does not recite the Qur'an is like the date — it has no fragrance but its taste is sweet. The example of the wicked person who recites the Qur'an is like the aromatic herb — its fragrance is sweet but its taste is bitter. The example of the wicked person who does not recite the Qur'an is like the colocynth — it has no fragrance and its taste is bitter.»
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: «مومن کی مثال جو قرآن پڑھتا ہے ترنج کی طرح ہے — اس کی خوشبو میٹھی ہے اور اس کا ذائقہ میٹھا ہے۔ مومن کی مثال جو قرآن نہیں پڑھتا کھجور کی طرح ہے — اس کی کوئی خوشبو نہیں لیکن اس کا ذائقہ میٹھا ہے۔ فاجر کی مثال جو قرآن پڑھتا ہے خوشبودار پودے کی طرح ہے — اس کی خوشبو میٹھی ہے لیکن اس کا ذائقہ کڑوا ہے۔ فاجر کی مثال جو قرآن نہیں پڑھتا حنظل کی طرح ہے — اس کی کوئی خوشبو نہیں اور اس کا ذائقہ کڑوا ہے۔»
