English Translation
Abu 'Umayr ibn Anas reported from his paternal uncles among the Ansar: 'We were clouded over and could not sight the crescent of Shawwal. So we continued fasting the next morning. Then riders came at the end of the day and testified to the Prophet (peace be upon him) that they had seen the crescent the previous night. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered them to break their fast and to go out for their Eid the next day.'
