أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ مَخْلَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الدَّقَّاقُ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَوَادَةَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَغُرَّنَّكُمْ مِنْ سُحُورِكُمْ أَذَانُ بِلَالٍ وَلَا بَيَاضُ الْأُفُقِ الْمُسْتَطِيلِ هَكَذَا حَتَّى يَسْتَطِيرَ هَكَذَا وَحَكَى حَمَّادٌ بِيَدِهِ قَالَ يَعْنِي مُعْتَرِضًا
English Translation
The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to Madinah and found the Jews fasting the Day of Ashura. He asked them about it, and they said: 'This is the day on which Allah saved Musa (Moses) and drowned Pharaoh, so we fast it in gratitude to Allah.' The Prophet said: 'We have more right to Musa than you.' So he fasted it and commanded his companions to fast it.
