أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ الْمِهْرَجَانِيُّ بِهَا أنبأ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ م��حَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْقَاضِي ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ عَنْ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ فَلَمَّا انْجَلَتْ قَالَ إِنَّ نَاسًا يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ إِلَّا لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنَ الْعُظَمَاءِ وَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ وَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ إِذَا تَجَلَّى لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلَاةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ هَذَا مُرْسَلٌ أَبُو قِلَابَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ مِنَ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ إِنَّمَا
English Translation
Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad the reciter narrated to us... from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir who said: The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He went out in a frightened state, dragging his garment, until he reached the mosque. He kept praying until it cleared. When it cleared, he said: 'Some people claim that the sun and moon only eclipse for the death of a great person among the great ones, but that is not so. The sun and moon do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for their life. Rather, they are two signs from among the signs of Allah, and when Allah manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it humbles itself before Him.
