English Translation
Abu Amr informed us... from Nafi', from Ibn Umar who said: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) went out to the prayer ground on al-Adha and al-Fitr, the short spear was brought before him until it was planted in the prayer ground, and he would pray facing it. That was because the prayer ground was an open space with nothing built to serve as a barrier, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would order the spear to be planted before him and pray facing it.
