وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ خُلَيٍّ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُثْمَانَ ؓ وَهُوَ مَحْصُورٌ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ يُصَلِّي لِلنَّاسِ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنِّي أَتَحَرَّجُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ مَعَ هَؤُلَاءِ وَأَنْتَ مَحْصُورٌ وَأَنْتَ الْإِمَامُ فَكَيْفَ تَرَى فِي الصَّلَاةِ مَعَهُمْ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ ؓ إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ أَحْسَنُ مَا يَعْمَلُ النَّاسُ فَإِذَا أَحْسَنُوا فَأَحْسِنْ مَعَهُمْ وَإِذَا أَسَاؤُوا فَاجْتَنِبْ إِسَاءَتَهُمْ وَسَائِرُ الْآثَارِ فِي هَذَا الْمَعْنَى قَدْ مَضَتْ فِي بَابِ الْإِمَامَةِ
English Translation
Abu 'Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us... from Abu al-'Abbas... from Ibn Abi Uways... from Malik, from Sumayy, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever performs ghusl on Friday as he would for janabah (major ritual impurity), then goes out in the first hour, it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes out in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow. Whoever goes out in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram. Whoever goes out in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen. Whoever goes out in the fifth hour, it is as if he offered an egg. When the imam comes out, the angels attend to listen to the reminder.'
