English Translation
Abu Sa'id Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Fadl informed us... from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) who said on the minbar: 'On Friday, the devils go out with their banners to the markets, enticing people with temptations and reminding them of their needs and delaying them from the Friday prayer. And the angels go out with their banners to the mosques, recording each man and the hour he arrived: So-and-so arrived at such-and-such hour, so-and-so arrived after two hours. If a man sits in a place where he can listen and see, and remains silent and does not engage in idle talk, he earns a double reward. If he sits in a place far away but remains silent and does not engage in idle talk, he earns a single reward. And whoever sits in a place where he can listen and see but engages in idle talk and does not remain silent, he has two portions of sin. Whoever says to his brother on Friday: Hush! has engaged in idle talk. And whoever engages in idle talk has no share in his Friday prayer.' Then he would say at the end: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying that.
